Phoenix bartop
« on: July 30, 2021, 08:42:20 pm »
Here's the companion piece to the Commando bartop (and the recent Magic Sword bartop). Customized the control panel artwork, and the side art to fit the shape.

All in all, I really like the art and color scheme of the Phoenix cabinet. The deep blues and greens combined with wood grain are really evocative of early 80's space themed arcade cabinets, tucked away in the smoky waiting rooms of restaurants, the lobby of the bank, along the walls of the noisy laundromat, or the entrance area to the drugstore. I fondly remember begging mom for a quarter to put into Phoenix at an IHOP on Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights, OH while waiting for our pancakes. Only then it was called 'The International House of Pancakes'. We had time to say the whole thing back then.

What a great build.

It had been soooo long since I had played it (prior to my MAME awakening a few years ago) that I had forgotten how wonderfully irritating the sound was!

I suppose it was hard to hear all of it over the deafening sound system in the Skate World roller rink in Orange, CT that I used to play it in ... how many years ago now...?!)

 :lol
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

In incredible coincidences, you mean literally this one that makes an appearance on their facebook page?

Good job! That's a great looking bartop. I had a special place in my heart for Phoenix. It was like a wild west version of Galaxian.
