Back door of upright cabinet
Blanka:
It all depends on the design of the cab. Mine is sturdy enough with the door open. It has a full height door, with 4 air vents with nice black painted grills and a lock. It is hinged on 4 kitchen hinges. These allow blind hinging, easy decoupling of the door when needed, they can carry 18mm of MDF at 700x1800mm and allow fine adjustments. But my cabs are standing free in space often, so the back had to be as nice as the front.
Grimoz:
The entire backing of my cab can come right off, its not a hinged door just a large panel with a vent that slots in at the base and is held in place by a drop bolt at the top, works really well especially when I have to do work inside.

You have a point, but I feel like I gotta put one on my cab anyway because if I don't, it'll feel less authentic to me...even though no one can see it. I'm OCD like that. ;D
I do plan on just using some old scrap wood though as I'm short on wood and not quite OCD enough to actually buy more wood for something that no one's gonna see.

I totally agree. If I'm not going to do it 100% in spirit, why bother building a cabinet?

Ive got a hinged/locked back door to get into the lower section of mine, with a fan on it:
i used a 2x4 across the top between the sides to support the monitor shelf, and there are 2x4s along the bottom to hold the frame together
the upper part with the monitor just uses the regular 2 back panels attached with screws or light would show behind the tinted full screen plexi.
