Back door of upright cabinet

I was going to leave my cab open but that was going to be a problem with my 5 year old and a decase tv.I then went with a 1/8 tinted plexiglass with a series of holes drilled in a circular pattern attach with screws.

I put a back on hinges with a lock to keep prying fingers from touching things not meant to be touched.   ;D

Unless you see the back of your cabinet, why go through the effort of installing tinted plexi with all those holes?  I'm not sure there's enough of an opening to provide sufficient cooling, so the holes are most likely more for looks than function (a thermocouple/thermistor/thermometer/etc would answer that pretty easily though).  Seems like it would have been easier to just install a door (1 ply panel, 2 small hinges, 1 lock) and possibly cheaper too!
