Why doesn't my rom work on linux?
nordemoniac:
Hi!
I'm trying to get BubbleBobble working on my Ubuntu installation. I just installed with "apt-get install mame", but I can't seem to get Bubble Bobble started?
On Windows, and mame from mamedev, it works... Well there are errors when starting it ("there are known errors...")
But on Linux, it just doesn't start? It says "ERROR, not found" and it lists a bunch of files.
What's wrong? Can't I run Bubble Bobble on Linux?!
And why does it even say that "there are known errors" on windows? It works perfectly...?
General_Faliure:
I think by default, Mame is looking in ~home/.mame/roms for roms.
.mame is a hidden directory.
Or you have to edit your mame.ini to change the rom path.
Do you use a front end? I use Wah!cade: http://www.anti-particle.com/wahcade.shtml
If all is setup right, it works great.
nordemoniac:
I'm planning to use Wah!Cade :D
I did setup a symlink to ./mame (home/emulators/mame), and created a roms folder under this one.
I haven't done anything else though.
Well, I created the config.ini file, but haven't started editing.
But is there something wrong with the Bubble Bobble rom? I do get an error on PC as well, but more a warning, and then you can still play.
After MAME, I am also going to install nestopia and zones.
I'm going to use Ubuntu 11.10 on a atom-computer. Hopefully it will be fast enough.
General_Faliure:
Did you try other roms?
On an intel Atom its better to use Lubuntu, wich is lower on resources.
nordemoniac:
Ah, I was thinking of Lubuntu. It's with KDE right?
I've been following this guide: http://gravitronic.blogspot.com/2011/11/mame-with-ubuntu-1110-in-jamma-arcade.html
He's talking about using fluxbox, should I do that even when using Lubuntu?
