I would also bet that the guy actually gave a fairly realistic assessment that they chopped up to make look like that. For all we know the question was "what would a real ms pac cocktail sell for at retail" and that's where the $1200 answer comes in.

I'm going to agree with you on this one. The amount of times you see commercials for shows or little segments that make it look like something happened is insane. 4 minutes later you watch the show only to find out that yes those words did come out of the persons mouth but completely out of context and they mean something completely different. Now if it was a straight uncut viewing of what this expert "said" then yes I'd say this guy is a moron. Due to the fact that the scene has obviously been chopped up into a bunch of pieces who knows how the conversation actually went.

Firstly, My comments were directed at Howard CastRo. "MR. Heart-Attack-In-Any-Moment"
As that is who started the Crazy rants.
Id say over 95% of the people on this board actually know that the show is both staged, and edited to shreds.
Yet, Howard goes ahead, hook-line-and-sinker, and starts fitting over it... calling Ops stupid.
Over-Reaction by magnitude 1000... and street-smarts level -2000.
No Op running an Arcade is going to be a dunce. No Op is going to Appraise a 40-in-one as an original Ms.Pacman. Its just ludicrous to even think that its even possible for that Scenario to exist in REALITY.
But even besides that fact... its the black and white attitude that is even worse, Imo. The Nazi example is a relevant one... merely because its extremist attitude taken to the furthest level.
Its not that I believe HC is going to be the next insane dictator.. or mass killer. Its just I see way too many people like this in modern society... and it Does in fact scare me.
I think Howard means well... but his own obsessions and insanely critical judgements are destroying his own lifes experience. And so I feel it for the better, to put him in his place.
As to collector value, a Real dedicated machine in excellent condition, will almost always be more valuable $$$ to a collector, than a generic x-in-one. Yes, prices for real machines have fallen... But more so due to mame than x-in-ones. Sure, you could call mame an X-in-one, but what Im saying... is that even without the cabinet or arcade controls... desire is down because you Can play them on your PC period.
Of course, lets not forget about the crap economy, and the fact that many games just dont hold up over time. Ive seen several local collectors switch from nearly all Vids, to Pinball, because once you master a vid... its old hat... where as each Pinball game started, is completely different.
As for X-in-ones in public... Ive never seem a single one in the states. Possibly in Taiwan, but I never investigated to know for sure. Its just pointless to even get riled up about regardless. If the Op gets caught, the Op gets spanked. I can tell you for certain, that no Op is getting buckets of money in some X-in-one even If they have the brass / stupidity to put one out.
--- Quote ---Actually, I bet he did open it up ... even the noobiest noob here wouldn't just plug a machine in blind.
It's the editing people.
--- End quote ---
Exactly. Anyone with Any coin op experience at all, wouldnt fire up a machine without internal inspection. Yet, according to Howard, a guy with a room of working machines, is going to risk blowing up a game... and possibly even causing a fire in his own Arcade... because he's "Stupid" and Does not care.

I apologize for speaking for others if not appropriate, but I assume most of us see the rant as nothing more than that. It's great for discussion, and maybe his "insane criticisms" are what makes it so lively and interesting. But when you start bringing Nazi comparisons into it... then well I think you're taking it more seriously than anyone else is and perhaps you need to take a deep breath.
Personally, I think rants are fun. They certainly add to, not destroy, my life's experience. ;)

the problem really is not some kinda of loeft point of veiw
but as much as ppl do not do there research,they
google/graiglist/kijji and think oh i can get it here for xx
but what they fail to think through,is
a=is it the real deal
b=dose it work,and if not how much to fix
c=can i make it a show piece
u c collector's simply do not want a knock off
they want the real deal,and they want it as colse to real as it can get...
lord i have had them walk out when i pointed out i put in a switch-mode and removed the linear,go fiq??
howard's point is simple >as-i-can-see<
do not lie,tell the truth
a knock off is a knock off
a duck is a duck
simple buy a chev that is to have xx motor and find some-one swapped it out for xxx,u would be livid to say the least..why?
because it is NOT THE REAL DEAL
