Not only smash it up but set it alight and dance around it like wild indians?

Been there done that.

I don’t think most of us enjoy actually playing the games. We have memories as a kid of these machines being awesome and something you could never own. Now we can own it or have the fun putting one together our self.

I don’t know what the right answer is, in the end you will have these arcade machines just sitting there taking up space not being used.

Dang,
I love playing the games!  I thought I spent some good amount of time in arcades when I was a kid, but I've only seen a small fraction of what is now available to me through MAME.  Building the Cab was/is interesting, but for me it's a means to an end, which is why the cab remains unfinished while I spend time adding games and tweaking the game list based on what I find and like to play.

Maybe it's cause my time is limited, and I get short bursts where I can build or game, so for now I'm choosing to game, while making notes to imrpove the cab.  But I like playing! :)

Right that’s all a part of building the cab. You play games to build up your collection, to see if they work and run smoothly; not because you find the game itself interesting or engaging like you did as a kid.
