Having HD trouble setting up a new computer mame transfer questions
gatordad:
I'm starting to have issues where certain games won't run and when I reboot the pc I get
boot to the last good know configuration option
I'm guessing its HD trouble at an early stage
The HD is about 13 years old so I have an extra pc with pci express slot and an avga card
Can I copy over all my folders and roms to the new pc without issue? any advice or things to do or not to do from those who have crossed this bridge already?
Thanks in advance
Thenasty:
why not just put the NEW HD on the same pc and clone it ?
Copying the entire MAME folder that includes EVERYTHING is fine. You just need to re-intall the DRIVERS for your sound/Video Card etc.. if using the HARDware from old to new.
I think if the PC now is good specs, just clone HD and your set.

The "new" pc has pci-e slot where the old one is agp I want to use the new pci-e Arcade vga card I have
Plus the old pc has 2 operating systems installed win 2000 and xp, xp is the "e" drive and 2000 is the c drive
Thenasty:
Ones the NEW PC is up and running with all DRIVERS and ready for MAME, you can copy the entire MAME folder and roms to the same spot where you have everything installed.
Everything should be good to go.
Hoopz:
Some versions of Windows have small issues when copying a folder from one hard drive to another. Windows may make the folder "read only" so if you have any issues with the files on the new hard drive, right click on the folder and look at it's properties.
It's a huge pain to figure out because no one would assume Windows does that. Once you've spent hours screwing around trying to figure it out, it becomes pretty easy to remember. ;D
