Nor is it anything like a tacit admission of guilt. Come on . . . you think Kobe Bryant raped that girl? That one is just cut and dried obvious innocence, and he settled out of court. You think a person with a bajillion dollars ought to put his faith in the justice system when he can end it all by signing a check? What would you do? What if your lawyer put your odds at 75% chance of winning? What if your case was so good that he said 90% chance of winning? You have a bajillion dollars and you're going to risk your career (not to mention risk living multiple years of your life in a cage) on those odds? I mean, they're good odds. But the stakes are pretty ---smurfing--- high. Imagine what a conviction for child molestation or rape would do to your life. To your career. Imagine what long-term incarceration in a prison would do to you.
Juries are unpredictable. Of course you settle something like that if you can.

Do you think drunk moron Roethlisberger didn't rape, or at minimum sexually assault, that girl? Was he charged? It goes both ways. In all of these cases something is going on. I know money comes into play in all these cases but there are plenty of rich and famous people out there not being charged with rape or child molestation. These people don't get to the point of having to settle out of court by being completely innocent.

Obviously (sometimes). Michael Jackson was hanging out with children and pretending to be one himself. Kobe Bryant was ---smurfing--- waitresses while on the road. But understand that having money can itself be the thing that leads them to this point. If I'm out of town on business and I decide to cheat on my wife, it's A LOT less likely that the girl I sleep with is going to be inclined to make a bogus claim that I raped her. Because all that can happen is that I go to jail. And that gets her nothing. You see that. The mere fact that these people are in a position to settle out of court for millions of dollars makes them targets for bogus claims.
I'm not saying that Michael Jackson or Kobe Bryant are innocent (though Kobe Bryant is innocent), I'm saying that I think they are. And I'm saying that the evidence that has convinced you of their guilt is stupid. It points to their innocence every bit as much as it points to their guilt.
I don't know anything about Roethlisberger. I don't know how it's relevant. Obviously I believe that rape does happen. Roethlisberger can be a rapist if you want. I just don't think Michael Jackson or Kobe Bryant are rapists.
