Can CRT_Emudriver Driver Cause Colour Problems??
« on: December 30, 2011, 01:32:02 pm »
For My Scart CRT TV setup i had a X600 Pro ATI card which had perfect colours on both my BUSH and SHARP test CRT TV sets. I decided to upgarde the gfx card to a HD4670 1GB card this requires the, 'crt_emudriver_9.3_1.2a_x64_multisync' driver and not the 'crt_emudriver_6.5_1.2a_x64_multisync' so i uninstalled the old 6.5 crt emudriver driver and installed the 9.3 version. Now for some unknown reason on the SHARP TV the colours do not appear to be correct now, theres either too much yellow or too much red in the picture i cant tell which but its not right thats for sure.

To start off i though it must be a dud gfx card but i connected it up to the BUSH TV and the colours were correct on that so it cant be the gfx card, then i though it must be the SHARP TV at fault so i plugged in my Super Nintendo into the SHARP and the colours where fine when using the Super Nintendo so its not the SHARP TV either. Can the emudriver 9.3 cause such a colour issue??

Well, at this point I'm open to believe nearly anything, but the weird thing here is that the BUSH TV still looks fine with the new card and drivers.

Sometimes when horizontal porch values are too low for a specific monitor you can see some tint variations in the picture, so maybe try increasing these to see if you see any change.

But these values are the same as when i was using the 6.5 drivers, does the 9.3 drivers do something different, or is it gfx card dependant?

9.3 should work just like 6.5, but there might be an hypothetical tiny difference in the timings between both cards as their final dotclocks won't match. However this was just an idea, I don't have a clue of what's happening.

Ok so do i need to change all 2 values relating to the horizontal porch, 'HFrontPorch' & 'HBackPorch'?

As atm my videomode is..

15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 2.000, 4.700, 8.000, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 288, 448

so should i increase all 3 horizontal porch value by say 0.500 so the new videomode would be....

15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 2.500, 4.700, 8.500, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 288, 448

?

These are the ones:

15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 2.000, 4.7000, 8.000, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 288, 448

Use 3.000 and 9.000 for instance.

You can also install the CCC to see if you can tweak the colors to something usable. Is it something uniform?

Ok i tried changing these horizontal porch settings but it didnt appear to change the colour tint, this is what i have for the videomode.....

15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 3.050, 4.700, 8.800, 0.280, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 288, 448

(with that videomode Final Fight seem 99.9% to fit my SHARP TV screen perferctly, as i can see the white line border on the mame nag screen just inside the edges of the SHARP TV display)

I think the colour problem is theres too much red, as on final fight in the intro where you have the map of Metro City and it pulsates/glows red, when its at the height of the red glow the red seems to over saturate and you lose almost all detail in the Metro City map!

Now i have no idea why this has happened, but i have noticed that either these 9.3 CRT Emudriver drivers are doing something different or its physically this GFX card but with the old X600 card and 6.5 drivers when windows used to be booting up i could see the boot screen, (or though the picture was rolling) Windows loading screen and welcome screen, but with this HD4670 card and 9.3 drivers all my Sharp TV displays on boot up is a solid blue screen and i only get a picture when in windows itself so its defo doing something different if this is releated to what appears to be an overide on the red rgb gun is a different matter!?

It's normal that newer cards (HD 4000) output higher frequencies during boot than the older ones, I found the same thing using the Hd 4350 with a J-PAC, that's not related to the red color issue.

Download the CCC from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/9-3/Pages/radeonaiw_xp64.aspx?&lang=English

... and try adjusting the red color individually.
