does anybody else think the amount of ads on the xbox360 menus a little ridiculous? I mean i paid for it, and i buy the games, why are there ads on it?....
let's boycott Microsoft for making me look at ads on a system I paid for. what's next, pausing halfway through COD to make me watch a Toyota Yaris ad?! :soapbox:

I agree. While I don't pay for Live myself, I still think the ads are overboard. I may start unplugging the internet from it, since I have a backlog of XBL games and don't play online (I just use it for updates and such). Probably the worst ad I ever saw was on an EA game though- when you start Need For Speed: Most Wanted up, it gives you an unskippable (one time) ad for a future game of theirs. I was livid.

Agreed. Not sure if it is true for all XBL Arcade content (a one-player game like Pac Man CE, for instance, works offline), but I am sure it is the case for XBL Indie games- which legitimately does stop me from buying some of them.

If i download free software i'll put up with ads, if i want them gone, i'll buy the software. isn't that how it's supposed to work?

The target market to buy cars, colones, mortgages and insurance is locked into console gaming. Why not target advertisements to that demographic? Sounds pretty reasonable to me. What I find unreasonable is to pay for SKY TV, use their SKY Player on the 360 and have to be subjected to adverts. I pay my BBC license do I get advertisements? Nope. Go Figure.
Please boycott Microsoft Live. Please keep away from using the service. The less people logging on the better, that way I can play BF3 without the lag. Thank you! :applaud:

It makes sense from a corporate standpoint, yes. But from a user standpoint... I would rather not have ads. It makes sense corporately for websites to have garish ads all over the place... but from a user standpoint I use adblock.
lilshawn:
i propose this...
if i want basic conectivity for updates (MSL free)... no online gaming, no nothing... no ads. there is no need to push crap while i update.,
if i want a free MSL gold, i can have ads like it is now. cool. online gaming, youtube, twitter etc... I'll watch ads for that.
if i want, i can pay for a subscription to MSL Platinum (we will call it) and have no ads. eff off.

It doesn't even make sense from a corporate standpoint. Customer goodwill is an extremely valuable commodity. Understanding WHY they do it doesn't make what they're doing reasonable. People don't like being taken advantage of. When you sense that your mechanic is screwing you, you find a new mechanic. What Microsoft is doing makes its customers hate them a little for it. Things like this add up and lead to disloyalty.
