Hoopz:
I thought his Twilight comment was hilarious.

He also made me think of the scene in Clerks 2 when Randal gets into the argument with the LoTR customer.   ;D

Franchise embarassments:  The latest film.

Heh. All credibility lost.

Star Wars was a Space Opera. Nothing wrong with that genre, it was entertaining. Wish they'd made more than 3 movies though.

No all credibility isn't lost.  A Star Trek film can't be good if it's too much like Star Wars just like a Star Wars film can't be good if it's too much like Star Trek.  That wasn't a knock on the franchise at all.

There isn't anything wrong with Star Wars, it's just Star Trek is superior.  You are comparing a mere trilogy to 45 years of continuously good films and television.  I have no problems admitting that The first three Star Wars films are fantastic... but that's all there is.

It's kind of like comparing Dr. Who to Babylon 5.  Both are great franchises in their own right but one has been on continuously since 1963 and the other had 4 or 5 seasons and a made for tv movie or two.

Part of your problem is you are sticking solely to the video medium.  Star Wars easily has the best books and video games of any of the franchises mentioned.
Personally I like Star Wars and Star Trek equally, they both have their high points and low points.  However, Babylon 5 > Dr. Who.

I didn't think "Oh no".

Big +1

--- Quote from: wp34 on December 15, 2011, 10:00:12 am ---I'm a fan of both series.  With the possible exception of Star Trek II I don't think any of the Star Trek movies or episodes are even in the same league as Episodes 4 or 5 of Star Wars.  Not even close and I am a huge Star Trek fan.  Quantity does not necessarily equate with quality.

:stupid I don't get why people even try to 'pick sides' when everything about the two is different other than they travel in outer space.

Oh, and relax guys, Twilight...It's only a trend. Wimmin-folk are fickle, you don't see 'Titanic' stuff being crammed in our faces daily anymore. It will be forgotten. If the series had attracted a guy or two, then it might be here to stay. That is why we will be seeing Harry Potter stuff for years to come.
