I'm a fan of both series.  With the possible exception of Star Trek II I don't think any of the Star Trek movies or episodes are even in the same league as Episodes 4 or 5 of Star Wars.  Not even close and I am a huge Star Trek fan.  Quantity does not necessarily equate with quality.

shmokes:
The new Star Trek was very good. HC's criterion (it's automatically bad if one is too much like the other) is utterly arbitrary. The movie is either good or it isn't.

Dr. Who, on the other hand . . . I never saw the earlier stuff, but I tried to get into the new stuff. It has no redeeming qualities. The writing is awful. The acting is awful. The characters are bland. The effects are awful. The stories are uninteresting and illogical. The cinematography is awful. Even the hot chick is only mildly attractive. WTF? Why do people watch this? Don't get me wrong, this is coming from someone who watched the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of Xena Warrior Princess. I can appreciate good camp. Dr. Who isn't.

Did anyone else see the topic title and think, "Oh no, Takei is dead!"?

Nah... he's quite active on FB, posts some pretty funny ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- there.

Anyone catch his cameo on Big Bang Theory?  ;D
