Chairs/stools for Cocktail cabinets
« on: December 10, 2011, 02:50:23 pm »
I am about to begin construction of a MAME cocktail cabinet. I've spent nearly four years doing my research, trying to find what works and what doesn't. I have the cabinet kit (four sets of controls, one at each end and two in the middle), and will get all the parts for Christmas.

Thing is, I have no idea what to sit on while playing! I never really saw cocktail cabs in the arcades, so I don't have any memories that would inspire me.

What works best? Chairs, stools, a bench? And what height? I want something that would make playing games comfortable, yet will look good enough that my wife will allow it to stay in the living room.

Do you have any plans for your cabinet?

Overall height and height of controls would be useful

You're gonna do lot's of leaning forward, so back support shouldn't be important, right? Did you check out Ikea's stools? This one for example: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80140266/#/80140266 might be nice. I have Julius one's myself that I chopped the legs off of.

Sorry, I forgot that not everyone can read my mind!  :banghead:

Perhaps this a question better left until after it is finished, but the cab is about 33.5 inches tall. Don't have the specific height of the controls, but I'd imagine they are slightly lower.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Most pizza joints just used the same chairs they had at the tables.

IKEA is my wife's favorite store. I showed her the link, and I'm good as gold now. Thank you! :notworthy:
