--- Quote from: FALSE on December 07, 2011, 08:24:24 pm ---I'm going to use regular joysticks, not joysticks with buttons on top of them. Would it be playable/comfortable to play a tank type 2 joystick game and use the control panel buttons to fire etc...??? Cant imagine that would work very well and I dont want button top joysticks but I would love to get my battlezone on. --- End quote --- I am easily able to play Battlezone with my setup. I have 1 & 2 Player 8-way joysticks with 6 buttons each. With the player 1 stick, I kind of hold it with my palm over the top of it and hit the leftmost button in the 2nd row with my thumb to fire. I do a similar thing to mimic a Defender controls layout. Left joystick moves up and down, the "thumb button" on the left side is for reversing direction, with thrust and fire being handled by player 2 buttons. It's a lot more ergonomically pleasing than it probably sounds. Besides, I never played the original cabinets for these games so it's hard to miss the authentic controls when I never used them in the first place. These games are fun enough in their own right, regardless of control panel design. |

There are hundreds, many good ones too. Senkyu (Battle Balls) is a personal favourite Puzzli Money Puzzle / Idol Exchanger Poto Poto Mang-Chi Landbreaker Mausuke no Ojama the World Mushihimetama (sequel to Uopoko, although this is one of the Cave SH3 games which is no longer supported in MAME by request of Cave) Aqua Rush Star Sweeper Pop n Pop Neratte Chu Water Balls Hatch Catch Otenki Kororin Deroon DeroDero Emeraldia Monster Slider Taisen Tokkae-dama Cleopatra Fortune Cosmo Gang the Puzzle are all games I find highly enjoyable (they all have their own unique twists) if you're willing to move beyond pure arcade games there are even more really good ones, things like the Saturn, Dreamcast and Playstation had many arcade ports as well as unique titles of their own. also depending on your definition of 'Puzzle' game Mosaic (F2 Systems) Mouse Shooter Go Go Risky Challenge Cross Pang Photo Y2K Guts'n |

I did it that way with my first cab and it was... well, it was ok. Not perfect, but much better than trying to use the panel mounted buttons. Here's a pic. --- End quote --- RyoriNoTetsujin, could you elaborate on why you say the one normal/one top-fire was only "ok". What did you like/dislike about it? I don't like the look of the top fire sticks but I hate to limit myself to the few doublejoy/0 button games there are. Also, I'm not sure whether I should put both joysticks to the left of the buttons or on either side of the buttons like the one in your old cab Ryo. Did the right joystick ever interfere with your button pushing or hand position? Anyone feel free to chime in with there opinions. Thanks! |
