Opinions on Android 2.0 tablets?
Howard_Casto:
I haven't got it, but "Santa" will probably be putting it under the tree within the week. ;)
They have them at Sam's Club and Walmart. It's 199 at walmart and 194 at sam's (but if you don't have a member card it's a moot point). There are recertified ones floating around (at sears.com for example) for 159, but for 40 bucks more I'd rather have a new one.
Yeah I played with it a little. Obviously I was in the store, so I couldn't do much, but I loaded up a few games, tried the internet browser.... loaded up google maps (which is VERY resource intensive, even on a pc). Everything worked well and I was satisified with the speed. Bigger apps take a sec or two to load, but that isn't a big deal to me. I'm obiviously not going to need to start a video game up in the blink of an eye. All the things that were important (internet, marketplace, gps, ect) loaded up quickly and well.
It has been rooted. I've been told that the dec 2 update blocks rooting, but since you aren't going to find one with the dec2 update on it yet, it should be fine. Also, much like the wii scene, once a company blocks rooting on one of these things the hackers simply find another work-around.
This generic rooter seems to do the trick:

In terms of custom roms, I don't really know. I'm not that far down the rabbit hole yet. Juding by the specs on the machine, you could probably upgrade to android 3, maybe higher. The main reason to root though would be to be able to change the interface. It's one of the few fully google certified tablets out there in that price range, so you have full access to the REAL android market and all the other things that you normally don't get.

Great. Thanks for the info.
After watching that review video you posted, three things stood out for me that I like about it:
1. The 8" screen. 7" is just too small for a tablet and that extra inch and 4:3 aspect ratio really do make a big difference.
2. Bluetooth for OnLive Gaming.
3. HDMI Out. Even the Nook Color and Kindle Fire don't have HDMI out.
The price is right for all the features that's for sure. That Remote Control App looks pretty cool.
