weird speed problem with area51

I'm getting really slow frames on area51 with topgun installed (didn't notice it until then).  weird thing is that if I hit ins, it gets to over 1000% and runs super fast.  I tried everything in the ini file I can think (remove the lightgun, and video stuff... )  No wait for framerate or anything.

it shows as 100% frame rate...

any clue?  btw, I'm running 144 downloaded from mamedev so it shouldn't be a compile issue.

Also, I tried on my main machine and it works there... 

Any ideas?

Did you change any sound settings in mame.ini?  Onboard sound or separate card?  I'd fiddle with those settings too to see if it help.

nope...

and again... I'm showing 100% and if I press ins, it runs faster then needed....
