Black Friday: 60" TV?

He needs the active ones for that model.  I think LG is the only one using the passive glasses (could be wrong, the industry is always changing), and part of that is due to the way the source resolution gets modified in order to achieve that feat.  Technically, the active glasses give a better representation of the full high-def source.  But LG does some tricks to help make up for the resolution issue, and there's no denying the convenience and low cost of the polarized glasses approach.

hows is the 2d to 3d for gaming? any noticeable difference in any games.

I really dont care. I am still ordering that 46".
