it's about 50 or 60 lbs... maybe. nothing really. I have no problem picking it up and placing it on a dolly...it's just big an awkward.

the monitor stand on the other hand is about 150 lbs.

the base is a 30"x30" 1/4" steel plate and the pole is 6' of 4" square tubing. it's designed to withstand being knocked into by drunken people.

Hi I'm new to this forum, and I know this is a little off topic.

I have a Need for speed Underground Arcade cabinet with a ps35-bl motherboard.  What I'm wondering is if there is anyway to get the game to fully boot on a different motherboard of similar specs.  It hangs on the intilizing components page with the new motherboard installed.  If anyone has any information or suggestions It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Brian

Welcome to the forum.

If your question doesn't get answered in this thread I would suggest starting a thread in the "Main Forum" area.  It will certainly get more exposure than this particular thread and I would think you would get a reply fairly quickly.

Good luck!

Scored a pga challenge 3 edition at auction to day $12.50.  Got home and got computer running with all the new upgrades already installed (new video card, upgrade memory) so have to figure out if monitor works but appears to be wrong monitor for game as no vga.  Will be able  to load virgin HDD to this cab and keep checking out dropbox updates.

because the OS is a stripped down linux based instsall, you'd have to find a board with the same chipset/videocard to get it to work.

if you find a board that uses the Intel 865G chipset and drop the original videocard into it, it MAY work.

Hey Shawn, the motherboard I installed does have the Intel 865g chip set, the same
CPU, ram and other components. The only thing I've noticed is different, is the
Ethernet controller and sound drivers. Do you think putting the drivers for the controller/sound
Manually would work on it.

Also after running the recovery disk, the game hangs at the in intilizing insert dongle,
Even though the dongle is installed.

I've just read through a lot of this thread and have seen some of you
Have been able to bring your games back to life with a different motherboard,
Hoping I can do the same here, gvr basically forces the upgrade on an old cabinet.

FNF computers are the WORST to try and keep running. currently raw thrills lists a "MB-N68S+" as the current replacement but  a "Biostar N68S+ ver. 6.2" with a GS7300 video card apparently works too.

well, the main difference is that the pga game is installed overtop of a stripped down windows xp installation (only the drivers needed for the hardware installed) called "XP embedded". since just about everyone has a windows XP or xp pro disk, it's easy enough to ditch the XPe and install win xp with all the drivers needed for new hardware...and then just install the PGA game overtop of it.

the raw thrills machines use a linux kernal OS...again with everything stripped down to basic hardware driver requirements for that particular computer.

the "install disk" is basically a drive image of a finished install.

IF you can find someone with some proficiency in linux, you might be able to load the drive with the install, put the drive into a linux computer, mount the drive, and change the install/load drivers to work with new hardware.

sadly i know next to nothing about linux... perhaps finding a linux forum and posting some questions there might get you some more info.

BUT if you do manage to get some different hardware working with the software, I'd be interested in learning more. we have about 20 Big buck hunter machines out in the wild that have similar linux installs and motherboards that are failing left right and center.

  SUCCESS!!!

I have the game installed and running on a Dell GX260 with SOUND!!!

The real test now is to pop it into a cabinet and see if it really plays.  Sadly the cabinet is a days drive away, so it will be a week or so before I get to that location.

Still, this is awesome!  The video card is an FX5600 so no breakthrough there.  Basically after the system recovery disk installation, I went into windows and installed the two drivers listed in posts above.  The sound driver asked for locations for drmk.sys and wdmaud.sys, which are in c:\windows\system32\drivers and c:\windows\system32  respectively.  I had to do this step 2 times until it booted into the GVR logo w/o prompting or errors.  Inserted the game disk 1 then 2 when prompted, and voila I hear the sound of the ball going into the hole.  It's all good!

Thanks for inspiring me to work on this.  Now to find another computer to try this with.  Two more cabinets need fixing...

I've got my need for speed underground up and running!! I ran the recovery disk
I did exactly what Paul did for the audio drivers
And installed the Ethernet controller driver
Then I installed the game after.  I'm running an ASUS P4P800-VM Socket478 Intel 865G
One more game to fix now! I'm so glad I came across this thread.
Thanks for your knowledge guys!
-Brian

Ed, where you able to confirm that the dongle call is in the HKEY on disks 1,2, and 3 but NOT the rescue? I can find it only on the installs and searched several times for hours on the rescue without finding it anywhere. I had another person test the deletion of the .exe that you instructed to delete but Team Challenge is still calling for the dongle so that's not working on our end.  The gvrdongle.exe file was deleted on each of the 3 installs (couldn't locate it on rescue). I'm thinking that at this point it would just be easier to download your software from your private server since it is tested and running on your end. I'm not having any luck with editing code.

Will your private server be up and running before new year?

Hope all is well, buddy.

hi
ok here we go

it is a optipac we will be using to replace the i/o board
this will be a up-grade i will add as a patch
so as not to interfer with ppl that do have a running i/o board
but rather a option for them
ltr tonight i will post a list of what the what is
it is rather long, tommrow is a short day for me
so i will be around the keyboard most of the afternoon

cmd32.exe if broken down
carry's the call's to hercule's
that is to answer your question stpcore
hercule's is the main moudle
the window's call mean nothing if it is turned OFF in hercules's
i suggest u ppl get harddrive's that can handle window's >>SP3<<

to get to the cmd32.exe
first u are playing with fire here :u have been warrned:
u will require a 32bit decompiler
and u will need a crc chker
and then u will need a 32bit recompiler
i will list my fav's
this cmd32.exe is the very first file ran from the rescue disk
plus u can c it load everytime pga load's up
it is a small window that pop's up say's >cmd32.exe< then colse's
the game then load's

Appreciate keeping us posted ed.  Just had another video card bite the dust so eagerly await your completion of every request as to install a stable video card.  I also did some digging aroung in my all access HD and found alot of reference to tiger woods as a player with all his settings, ball, .plr files.  If I dig with hercules can I possible reinstate all the players??

Thanks

hi
yukonblaze
yes
u may find the cmd's as =0
and or =1
or depending on your rev
>>>>cmd > '<
the ' is a rem cmd
also so is >>> : <<<
take's a byte to get to
but if u can post your rev >load-up-page<
i can better help u
btw hercule's is easy to edit
suck's your video card biatched, but i am now leaning toward's what i set out to do
and load sp3,then run in pga with the driver's hercule's will understand

to repoint is easy
u go into hercule's and remove :nivida:rem this cmd olny, and replace it with the card u want to run >the reason for the rem is to save u a boat load of work if u need to go backward's<
then tell it where  to expect to find them
ie c:\windows\system32\system
then u load the driver's into window's
into both system and system32

hi

A simple walk through for gobal vr pga golf

hi
there is so much to list, that i will try to answer alot of question's here
i am going to try to keep this simpile
first i need to asume u have a gobal-vr pga golf >rev< dose not really matter here
from there we will go to common thing's

a=u can remove the dial-up modem and toss it
b=u can turn the internal lan on,to do this u will do a few edit's
in a program called hercule's,it is the main base program for your machine
to do this remove your harddrive from the pga
slave it,and place it as a slave in any spare computer u have laying around
it should be seen in window's as :d:
using window's explorer,explore the drive,u will find hercule's
in hercule's u will find modem >contexit<,u will find video >nivida< u will find >dongle call<
the conexit is the modem call, remove it, will kill modem call
the nivida is your video card call this we edit
the dongle call is your dongle >key-call< this if u need remove it
now we move to the system file's
they are under d:\window's
where d:is your pga drive
now what we are going to do is a few jump's
first we are going to find the driver's for our new video card
and load them olny to window's system and system32
next we are going to find the nessary driver's for our onboard lan
and repeat the upper step of adding them to window's system and system32
please make sure u add to both of the .dir's
next we are going back to hercule's
and we are going to add in the name of the new video card
in place of the nivida call
so we remove the name nivida and place in the new name
then we will add a cmd to turn on the lan
on most it is remed out
if not simply tell hercule's to look for onboard lan
ie >lookforonboardlan<
the full walk around will be on the bot soon
rember these olny apply to your d: drive and not your main window's drive :c

Hi All,
A little off topic. I have got myself a team challenge Led scrolling topper however it has no power supply or serial cable to connect it to my PC. Would anyone have a spare one of these items lying around and be willing to send them to Melbourne Australia? I off course would be willing to compensate anyone for the items postage and time. Would love to get this running on my machine as a little added bonus to enjoy the upcoming new lease of life Ed is going to provide to us all.
Thx in advance,
Spitfire

I think I have a spare cable but not a power supply.  Let me know if you can't find someone that has both (would be cheaper to ship both together obviously) and I will ship you the cable.

I just bought another PGA tower that is supposed to be running Team Challenge.  When I turn it on I get constant LONG BEEEEEPs and no display (black screen).  I had this problem with another tower and when I replaced the battery on the mother board and the video card it started up.  Is there anything specific that I should be looking for on this one as I don't have another video card or battery at the moment?

***UPADATE*** I was able to get it to reboot without an issue by holding down the power button and letting it restart.

i believe the power supply is 7.2 volts and 3 amps?

it's an old school transformer poer supply and it's heavy as hell. You could probably order a modern SMPS power supply from china off e-bay for cheaper than it would cost to ship.

let me double check the supply specs and get back to you (unless someone here has one they can look at.

I started a PGA Golf Owners thread for those that want to have friendly competitions, post scores, share ideas, and anything else that may throw this 17 page long thread off topic.  It can be found here

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129168.0.html

I hope that all of you will consider subscribing!  I tend to come up with a new idea for PGA every so often and I don't want to back up this thread.  I'm hoping to keep THIS (Ed's) thread on course (no pun intended) while still giving us way to keep PGA going strong!  Hopefully this will open up additional time for Ed to keep on rolling.

If you have been watching these threads and never bothered to become a registered user here I would encourage that you do so!  It's about to get interesting!

What is the best program for poking around the pga HD?  Wount to look at .plr files and others but all look decrypted.   Poking around my all access drive and ran herucles UI in hercules folder in drives main directory and showed dongle present.  This drive I pulled from working cab, is there a way to put this file so that pga cab cant overwrite the dongle present??  I  am just poking around trying to figure out hercules, so will have questions now that my interest in peaked.

Hi All,
Thanks for all ur info bout power supply n serial I will search for one on eBay n let u know how I go. I might need to get that extra serial cable off u though Stp as I think this might be a bit hard to find?
On an other note only downloaded original Dropbox recovery files from day one. Are there other files I should have Ed if so can u let us know n leave in box a while longer as I haven't looked in there for a while?
Thx Spitfire

You are fine.  The only files that were in DB were the original Rescue and three install CDs in the event you needed a fresh install.  Now we wait...

hi
spitfire the cable u are looking for is a db9 to rj45
nothing special
it will plug into your pga serial port then the rj45 goe's into the overhead display
why u are doing this is mistfying to me ? as gobal-vr shut them down expect for local
adv-ing once they shut there server down, lord know's i never even coded into them
but is but,have at er.....
i was tinkering with the idea..but is but again..seemed like a waste of time to me
as i have reved to sp3,we can overlay on screen
or u can up to hdmi->2<
and run a sep lcd :18"-x-5": and do away with the led display
and the serial sucking port
but then again this is your call,i can find the display info and explain the edit's if u so request.?.
by now ppl should have caught onto the idea i am NOT answering my pm's
the reason is simple
i get very little time to code right now
as i tired to explain..i am running the big show..this mean's the full route and ppl that work for us,plus doing my electronic repair work
so by no mean's am i inqouring u..but there is a point where u want a tad to yourself
all request's will be filled
