Hi All, it seems to me that we r heading off the initial path of modifying the PGA code to allow tournament play again n also to unlock all the players, items, courses etc. thx to Ed it seems all this as been done aswell as being able to replace the graphics card with a newer card of choice, bypassing the dongle call etc etc. however now we r trying to find a way to use the ipac in order to bypass the hard to get io interface. Why can't this be done at a later date n we continue with adding these mods to our original machines so we can all enjoy playing some online tournament play again and enjoy our original machines with all players, items n courses unlocked. After this we can continue with the ipac solution to our new builds?? Can this be done Ed? As we downunder wish to play u blokes sooner rather than much later?
Thx Spitfire

hi

from the rescue disk
after u >copy< it
delete this file

c:\pga\hercules\gvrdongle.exe

so in short u have copyed the rescue disk
to a .dir u made on your harddrive.
i will asume u olny have 1 harddrive =c
but if u have multi hardrive's d,e,f
it has to be there
it is that simple
delete that file
it's a period
that is a exe file >.exe<
your dongle call will no longer be there
hercules will bypass it totaly
now load this to a vrigin drive
NOT over top of the current drive
because u have invoked the window's hkey's already
and there .dll's/.ocx's
ie system32/system
once u have done this
save it
ie
hercules
this is now your new rescue disk
u no longer need the dongle

Very nice, Ed. What program do you recommend for editing code? I personally have never had a reason to do it up until now. Now I can get my Team Challenge up and running again!

Do have have an updated ETA for your personal server with the previously discussed updates / IRC with PGA Bot?

If anyone has attempted the dongle bypass let us know how it turned out. I will post my results when I figure out how to delete the line of code and get a virgin hard drive.

Hi
stpcore
i just use a normal window's note-pad/word-pad is best
but when it come's to .bat's/.dat's
i use an advanced :renamer:
like free file vewier
or an advanced file renamer >>by far the best will chk your :crc's<<
forget the name of it off my head
then i change .dat/.bat to >>.txt<<
edit if need, save, then chk crc, then rename to what ever the .bat/.dat was
same with .exe unless it is locked
then i use a window's unlocker
and repeat step's ^^^

ya spitfire i am doing my level best
but i am running flat out
as soon  as he got wind i was ready to walk
the boss heaped a ton of work on me,to up my hour's and hence my pay
i was expecting to be off tommrow...i was wrong,
but as i said bot is up
let me get er sorted out
hopefully over the weekend

Hi
spitfire
if u are up to it ? i can upload the modem kill cmd
and the cmd to turn on the onboard lan's
rem some of these unit's  the onboard lan will not work at-all
so what i do is shove in a lan card with it's own bios chip
no fuss no muss
just have to tell herc it is there
u add the cmd in cmd line
ie >> gvrlanchk <<what it is doing is telling hercule's to look for a lan connection
from there it is a cake walk
a few system32/system driver's and away we go

side note here i am haveing a hard time explaining to andy that i cannot use the ipac if it want's a full window's service pk
as we run under limted window's and are basicly running under hercule's
i will need to c what it want's

just thought i would update u on the ipac front
and btw spitefire unless u have a boatload of stock on the i/o card
u might want to pay attenion

Hi Ed,
As mentioned previously I am happy to wait n do all the mods all at once. So take ur time sort everything out n then once ready upload all the mods n ill make all the changes needed all at on time. I worked with Andy and his ipac, apac etc on my multicabs and they do a great job so yes would be great to have these as a backup to run the controls. Just thought this side of the mod could be done later so we get everyone's original cabs as they are running all the mods n playing online now as cant wait to play some golf against u guys on the other side of the world not to mention unlock all the extra items courses players etc
Thx Spitfire

Thanks for all the work your doing.  Got the files from dropbox (via stpcore) and wondering if when you get everything up and runing will you be putting the completed files up on dropbox as well?

Thanks

hi
yukonblaze
the file's i wrote :expect: for a few select few go out public to get ppl going., will be in a private server,pga/pga_bot
then there is boat load of drop down's
so channel is pga
bot is pga_bot
U MUST BE REGERISTED IN THE SERVER AND BOT
if not u will find a fast exit
to access real time golf
u will be required to know how to .cfg your lan network >pga-golf<,and >router<,
to access it,there is a readme on this.
+ the :static_ip,as i am paying for it,u know the rule there
i am NOT CHARGING PPL FOR THIS as it is a wack of fun
i just wanted it static
for the simple reason i have a aussie bud busting my b'alls to kick his arse
i am gonna teach how we golf up here in the great white north

spitfire
ya the ipac is a sideline,i agree,but these .cfg's are inter-twined
if i do not add a command here or there the dang thing will not work
or if i drop a ball on a system32/system .dll/.oxc again it will be a headache
and patch after patch to fix the problem
i like to side on the side of ok it work's,instead of opp's

yukonblaze
there is serval ppl here whom know where the bot sit's
and can explain it to u

Hilarious!  Don't forget about the good old U S A that's ready to compete!

It's to my understanding that PGA Bot is sitting parked until Ed decides to open up the server to those that are interested.  If I missed something and it's readily available I would love for someone to clue me in as to how to access it.

hi
stpcore u did not mis a heart beat here
but i will say this open
i need a co -runner on the channel
reason is not because it will come off line
but because rember it offer's on line support
+ if i am not on >per-say< >ed<,as !!pga!!/pga_bot is me and stay's on line 24-7
so at time's i will drop out >pga< but the >bot< pga_bot stay's on line
so in short i need a wing man to just look after the channel
this was told to me by >x<,>x< is the over-all server owner
so in short that op is the system-op
do not mess with him
i am leaning toward's u stpcore if u are up to it?
as spitfire is 14hr's away
and dirt as i understand it is flat on his back
your ppl's call

stpcore
it is easy just a putter on 24-7
u are in NO way serving and or sharing bandwith, that is my end
u act as cofounder
u have control over everything but pga_bot
and even there u get limted control
up-to-kicking HIM
which u cannot do as it is the founder
and it set it in motion

I can keep a computer on 24-7 without any problems.  Feel free to PM me the details if that's easier.  I can give you my phone number as well in the event you prefer to talk.

I bought a non working PGA tower and a gutted control panel from a member at KLOV (nice guy) and was able to get it up and running.  It's currently running Championship I so I'm going to do the upgrade to Team Challenge.  I may test the dongle bypass on this one as it's going to my brother's house as a Christmas gift.  That way I don't have to worry about the dongle failing on him.

So basically I have to find a new drive to do this...correct?  I can't upgrade the Championship I to the edited Team Challenge code if I understand that correctly.  It would have to be a fresh install on a brand new drive for the dongle bypass to be effective, right?

Don't want to get off topic but thought a little break in the action would be OK.  I remember some comments on PGA hooked up to an LCD display.  So while I was repairing a non working tower I hooked it up to my 60" plasma not expecting much but I was completely surprised!  Obviously 60" is a little overkill and not ideal for a pedestal cabinet but I was just curious.  I think a 40" LCD would be PERFECT for this game.  The pic here doesn't do the actual PGA display justice, trust me.

hi
stpcore
 it is not off topic
yes a 40/42" lcd work's like a gem
i perfer 32" as the white's do not tear
if u have ever seen gt-live? it is a 42" lcd driven by super-hdmi
and u will c the white's are a tad into just about tearing
where on a 32" it's like looking into a putter monitor
and our video card without any update's will fully support it

Does anyone here have the original 3 install cds for "TEAM CHALLENGE" that they could share with me?  My rescue cd is fine but the current install cds that I have are not working and I really need to get one of my machines up and running if possible.  Uploading them to Dropbox would be ideal but I'm open to just about any other method that works for you.

***UPDATE*** I have someone that is going to help me with this one!

Thanks in advance.

I know you must be backed up which is why I didn't want to add to your plate with the install disks for Team Challenge. I just wanted clean working installs to put on that tower I recently acquired.

Thanks, Ed.  I have version four that has the (4) disks.  If you don't have time to upload them I do have someone that is willing to lend me the originals and they have agreed to mail them to me.

I still am a little confused as to Hercules not being on the Rescue disk.  It clearly sits on the install disks but I can't find it on the Rescue ANYWHERE.  I don't think we ever got this clarified from days ago.  Any thoughts on this and if you don't mind would you be able to do a small step by step tutorial on how we are to disable the dongle call?  It seems that we have been stuck on this step for quite some time and once we can all grasp this step it would be great to move on to your greater project.

Any word on getting the server up and running?  As I said I would be happy to dedicate a computer to run 24/7 and help out in any way I can.

With Ed talking about us being able to connect our PGAs via HDMI in a future update it got me thinking about putting a widescreen 16:9 LCD/LED into the gutted cabinet that I'm restoring versus a traditional 4:3 monitor or CRT.  I can use the VGA output on a widescreen LED now and switch to HDMI in the future when that patch is available.

I didn't want to put another regular monitor in there as I wanted to upgrade to widescreen (16:9) LCD/LED. The problem with widescreen LCDs and arcade cabinets that I've found is width of the cabinet can make certain LCDs look small in general because widescreen (16:9 format) are wider and loose a little height in the process.

So my goal was to fit the biggest LCD widescreen TV I could find inside the 27" of space that I have in the cabinet. I also wanted to fill in the areas above and below the screen with a custom printed bezel so that the screen wasn't lost in a space of blackness making it look smaller. So this is what I've come up with so far.

The TV I plan to get is a VIZIO Razor 29" Widescreen Format LCD HDTV. It's 26.42" wide which will fit PERFECTLY inside the cabinet! It has VGA (what we should all be using with our PGAs) as well. The link is here http://store.vizio.com/led-lcd-hdtvs/e291a1.html and it can be found for about $250 at Walmart, Costco, etc.

I still want to tweak this bezel a bit until I get it perfect. From there I will print it off and stick it directly to the glass that will be on top of the LCD. If you have any suggestions let me know. I will update pics when everything is done. I designed this to scale taking the size of the cabinet, size of the LCD, and size of the LCD screen into account. This is what it should look like when done covering the entire protective glass of the cabinet with a printed decal bezel. I am in search for a clear vector of the Global VR logo so that I can incorporate that within my personal design. I didn't have any luck finding on online. Any ideas would be appreciated!

man you are coming up with some awesome ideas.  I have a buddy with a non working showcase cab and have him interested in my extra pga computer once this all gets up and running.  Hope to add a bigger graphics card as well once ed walks us through all the updates.

Thanks! I really like PGA Golf and Im becoming passionate about making improvements and modifications to make it as enjoyable as possible. I've turned many friends and a few family members on to playing it as well.

I think that Eds efforts are crucial as it will keep this game alive for years to come. I'm thankful to Global VR for allowing him to edit code so we can all continue to play this underrated / underplayed golf sim.

I started a PGA Owners thread over at another forum. Maybe I should start one here so that I don't accidentally derail this thread. I know that I get excited when I see that a post was submitted as I think it could be our holy grail. How disappointing it must be for some when its me talking about a custom bezel!  :lol

Yeah, I dig that actually.  How much does the pedestal weigh without the TV?  Is it fairly portable?  Nice job on that.
