I'm more than willing to give it a try.

What do I need to do now?
I've installed the recovery disc.

Do I need to delete pga\hercules\gvrdongle.exe from the recovery disc and reinstall on a clean hard drive?

here are the step's
COPY RESCUE DISK INTO IT'S OWN .DIR ON A ACTIVE HARDDRIVE
LET'S USE THIS AS AN EXAMPLE C:\RESCUE
OPEN IT
LOOK FOR HERCULE'S
OPEN IT
LOOK FOR GVRDONGLE.EXE
KILL THAT .CMD

Will this sort the missing drivers, or does it matter?

!u will kill the gvrdongle.cmd totaly
it will walk right around the dongle call
and carry on loading as pre normal!

u have a total of 3 disk's correct ? this will inculde the system rescue disk
if so 1/2 are the exact same
both of which i have
in championship 3 they changed the key for the dongle
hence the massive edit's to kill the dang cmd
now go to gobalvr tech ref site and make sure
this > pn:050-002401< match's what u need,and i will get it up there
if u have to call them ref the ^^^^^ # so they can cross ref it for u
they will give u a proper part # if mine is wrong
we can then move foward for u the easy way

Yes 3 discs including the rescue disc.

VER 050-0024-01 REV B (causes a blue screen)

I believe the original Recovery disc would have been pn:050-0101-01 at it is a Maygay/Enta system not DRI. (would this matter now there's a different motherboard?)

Hi Simon, what were the steps u used to make the rescue disk bootable?

I used Imgburn to add the files, selected make bootable and added a Windows98_SE.img for the boot file.
Once the system boots from the CD. I type D:(CD Drive letter) enter, then: PQDOTASK.BAT enter which loads the recovery disc.

Recovery CDs so far:
Interestingly the VER 050-0024-01 REV B causes a BLOD on boot up.

PGA Golf Team Challenge recovery disc install fine and loads up XPE but states the dongle isn't valid when trying to install Champ 2.1.3.0

Stpcore: I'll try the new game install disc once it has uploaded.

Maybe a fresh install is the way to go?  Surprised its so finicky!  I was able to use the recovery CD for "Challenge" to install "Team Challenge" without any problems but who knows?  I will let you know as soon as everything is uploaded.  It's taking some time so maybe 2 hours or less?

Same with a fresh install. It's so difficult trying to work with the original dongle! if I could remove the need for it I'd install the team challenge as the recovery CD works and bin my championship 2 dongle!

It'd be great to eventually play PGA globally, maybe just fix it first

I agree.  We've been anticipating the dongle kill for quite a long time.  It will be nice if it happens!

I wonder if you tried the rescue for Championship III with a fresh install of the Championship II disks that I'm uploading if that would work?  Did you want to give it a try?

I updated those version numbers in my last post as I accidentally mixed and matched the rescue versions with install versions.  So with that being said it looks like Championship II and III where using the same Rescue version.  I can upload Championship I and Challenge Rescues to see if that will make any difference for you.  You have to be getting close I'm assuming.  If that dongle kill gets released you will be golden.

I feel like it's making progress.

I've just tried to install the Team challenge CDs out of interest and they show the following errors:
Cannot find:
D:\_setup\feedkeys.wsf
D:\_setup\killgame.wsf
D:\_setup\deleteshort.wsf
D:\_setup\stopautoplay.wsf

but it continues to install the 3 CDs 

Once all 3 Cd are installed:
It shows the following error messages:
Cannot find:
D:\_setup\SetupCabinet.wsf
D:\_setup\InstallCertificate.wsf
Installation failed
Further than my championship install!

Please let me know when they are all uploaded.

that is all hercule's and gvr error's
the kill cmd is the 1 of interest

u must have your load set to display ?
as that is mostly background noise
wfs is a wack format,it was written for gobalvr
if u convert it in wordpad
u can clearly see what it is doing
ie this is a dos32  program must be run under window's >u shake your head at that statment<,but thats what they did to confuse the mud

stpcore i am going to try my patch this afternoon
i truly hope it work's >live< ie > a running machine<
and not a disk pre say

Progress so far:
The only recovery disc to install so far is the team challenge.
Champ 2 states the dongle is invalid.
Team challenge will install with the errors above that you replied to.

c=u have a good video card

the smart card reader take's care of itself :ie: no driver's are loaded for it
to prove this to yourself

window's key on the keyboard-device manger-smartcard reader's
it will be blank :ie-no driver's:
rember u may have to kill hercules
smart key >window's< logo,kill hercules
u may need to do it a few time's

at the top of the screen should read  >gvr00012909f43< or such
this btw is your key code

now onto the patch
trickey at the moment
but it can be done

OK, so no drivers for the card reader.  I must have two card readers that aren't functioning.  If anyone has an extra they would like to sell let me know.

With that being said, Ed...I don't want to bother you with anything else so that you can dedicate your time to getting your patches up and running.  If it's something we must do step by step that's fine.  Let me know if I can help in any way as I would certainly be willing to do so.

I'm only able to install the Team Challenge recovery and game discs.
Once the install completes I see the loading screen and these errors:
Cannot find:
D:\_setup\SetupCabinet.wsf
D:\_setup\InstallCertificate.wsf

Winxpe keeps asking for the following drivers:
PCI simple communications controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Sisagp.sys

Interestingly it has changed the text on the LED display to the Team Challenge text.
How can I make this work without the correct dongle? (Mine is Champ 2)

You can't make it work without the correct dongle yet (if you are referring to playing Team Challenge without a Team Challenge dongle).  Ed is currently working on a software patch that will allow you to do so.  You may want to hang tight and see where he leads us.  If that LED topper is displaying Team Challenge info then the game is most likely installed correctly but without a Team Challenge dongle that's not going to do you any good for right now.
