IT ALL TASTES THE SAME.

I've been dying to try balut, though.  Only one place in San Antonio has it, and the rest of their food is disgusting.  Until one of you drops dead next to my grill, balut's about the only thing I haven't eaten...

I don't understand.  Why not just try it at that restaurant if you're dying for it so bad.
On a side note, the market I got my quail eggs from sells it if you feel like preparing it at home.  I guess you just need to boil it in salted water.
I don't think I'm interested, but if it were ever around and it was offered I'd probably try it.  I won't search it out tho.
The store also sells frozen grubs.

Vigo:
I probably wouldn't go to a disgusting restaurant just to try balut either. I prefer not to die from food poisoning.

I have a pretty good tolerance for weird foods as well. Probably the weirdest dishes I have had is Vietnamese fried bamboo worms and fermented chicken feet. I highly recommend the worms, but the chicken feet have to be made properly to taste good. You need to go to a trusted source. I have also had stinky tofu, which even Andrew Zimmerman - the strange foods guy couldn't handle. The stuff wasn't that horrible though. It was more like tofu made with pickle juice or something.

AlienInferno:
I've had pickled quail eggs before.  Quite tasty IMO.

Mikezilla:
I dont get why all the gross ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- is Asian. Its like they try to make it taste bad. Why the HELL would you want to try Balut anyway? What do you think its going to taste like? Its a Filipino thing isnt it?

I went to Japan and tried a bunch of things but are pretty tame compared to worms and chicken feet. I had a live shrimp, some chicken bones, a whale burger, some octopus beaks, and a bunch of sushi that I thought was weird but delicious.

Vigo:
I dunno...I wouldn't call live shrimp and Octopus beaks tame food.  :o

The problem is that most the disgusting food over there isn't even cool disgusting. I would love to try chilled monkey brains served in the monkey's own severed head, but that only exists in Indiana Jones.  :'(
