im going to buy a graphics card to work with groovymame,
whats a good cheap and cool running vga card?,
im using cocktail cab so heat is an issue.

also im wanting to run it with on a asus board and 775 celeron 2.8 processor,
im not really that bothered about the newest games running fast,
will this system be good enough or would i be much better with a core 2 duo?

cheers.

My favourite cheap old cards are Radeon 9250 and Radeon X300 (AGP or PCI-E), they are fully compatible with both versions of hacked Catalyst (6.5 and 9.3). Of course, forget about running SF IV with those cards.

I have set up the machine, i have a ATI 9200se but for the moment am running a radeon 7000 so will change it later,
the celeron D processor was like a radiator ,so stuck the old system back in,using athlon 1900xp slightly underclocked.
Now running windows Xp without ACPI using XP sp2 beast edition and Mala for the front end,and getting
very fast boot times.

Install and setting up has been a breeze so far, used the driver set up and then selected monitor D9800,
i am running a microvitec multisync monitor that seems to handle everything thrown at it.

On the whole im very impressed so far, im coming from using Dos and advanced mame/hacked vsyncmame,
and im getting very good results, comparable in a much quicker time,id advise anyone to try this version of mame
out,my dos advancemame addiction may be cured!:)

One question I have is that most games to be running in interlaced like modes, is that normal or could it be my monitor/setup
that may not be set quite right.

fixed the interlace modes - this happens when running from the groovymame built in front end and works well but
when i installed mala, the modes were normal without interlace.

I wonder if an older version of mame would work well with your video driver,For people with elderly pcs:)
thankyou for your great work..

Glad to see you figured out that, yes, resolution settings are not properly done when the internal menu is used for launching games, I've fixed that here already and will be included in next release.

Sure, but you'll need to generate inis, you can use VMMaker for that, it wil work with any version of MAME that supports XML (around 0.8x and above I believe).
