It's funny that you mention this, because when I read about the OASIS visor, the Oculus Rift immediately came to mind.

I had the exact same opinion.  Right after obtaining the first key the book started to fall apart for me.  It was still overall a decent read, it just seemed like the author had a really good vision up to and including that first key, and then didn't really have much of an outline except for a decent final battle near the end.

Also...probably overdid it with the spoiler tag...but I HATE thinking I might be giving anything away.

Looks like they've hired a writer for the movie adaptation:

Based on his resume, I'd say this is happening.  Whether it's good or not might come down to how much stuff referenced in the book can be licensed.
It won't be the same with generic, never really existed retro stuff.

Ernest Cline's next book still isn't out btw.
He's got a bunch of stuff from the Atari E.T. Cartridge dig up on his site.
He dressed up as Eliot and brought a speak 'n spell along.   :lol

+1 - meant to read it awhile back and forgot -- though just found the audiobook for download so may just listen to it rather than read it ! (though it looks like the audiobook is about 16 hours so may take awhile !)
