UPDATE- MARCH 2013 - I am closing shop. Thank you for all your support.

I have an inventory Zero Delay Encoder Boards in stock. They are now improved. All the wires now have the wider .187 inch terminal connectors on the end for better versatility connecting to your arcade parts. The good news is that the price is still at a low 14.75 per board shipped in the US. International is simply the difference in shipping added to the price. Feel free to PM me for a price quote. :D

Now the board has always come with 4 wires for a joystick and 8 wires for buttons, but board is capable of taking up to 12 button wires, and some people have expressed interest in utilizing all wires. I am happy to announce that I now offer an option to purchase the board with 4 joystick wires and 12 button wires! The price for the board with the extra wires is $17.50 after shipping in the US. As with the 14.75 option, international price is only the cost difference in shipping added. PM me for a quote. - For those that have already made a purchase and want extra wires, I will happily send you the additional wires at $3.50 shipped for each set of 4 wires. domestic or international. Just let me know!

Here is the board:

Zero Delay Arcade Control Encoder

The Zero delay is the most cost effective encoder option available. It is plug and play, lag free and very compact. (8.5 cm X 3.5 cm X 1 cm)

The Zero Delay board comes with:

  • USB Cable
  • 4 Wire sets for joystick.
  • 8 Wire sets for 8 buttons, or 12 wire sets if you want to upgrade.
  • Instructions

The Zero Delay also has these additional features for those that wish to utilize them:

  • Hat switch for secondary joystick, POV controls, or console style gaming controls
  • Autofire option
  • Rapidfire option
  • 5 pin port for Japanese (Sanwa) ports

FAQ:

Q: What method does this board encode the controls?
A: Controls are encoded like a gamepad.

Q: How do I hook up the controls?
A: one end of the wire plugs right into the board port, the other end connectors into the joystick or button switch. The included instructions will let you know what each port maps to. The terminals will fit up to .187 size terminals, which is the most common size for arcade switches. If you have switches that take the larger .25 terminals, you can either soldier on the terminals or crimp on new connectors.

Q: Have these boards been inspected?
A: Each board was given QC initials. Also, I have personally plugged every board in my PC and determined that it registers correctly with the PC. I have also visually inspected all the wires and boards.

Q: How should payment be made?
A: I am set up for Paypal. If you are interested in purchasing, send me a PM.

Q: Is this compatible with PS3?
A: I have had a chance to try it out, yes, it worked great. It should be great for fighters! Just bear in mind that there is no Home button. If you need an encoder with a PS3 Home button, check out my ZD Rematch!

Q: Does it need special software?
A: It uses the standard joystick drivers on the computer, no software needed!

Thank you!!

These look very familiar. Do you know if it's compatible with the PS3 and does it have "start" and "select"?

Thanks.

I may be asking the same question as directly above...

Getting ready to build a cabinet for a friend on the cheap. Will these work in MAME on a standard PC?

Does anyone know what type of connector that is on the board end of the wires (the white one)? Does it have a specific name?

Sorry, its a crazy busy morning for me. I will reply to pm's soon.  :)

These look very familiar. Do you know if it's compatible with the PS3 and does it have "start" and "select"?

There are button slots for select and start. It comes with enough buttons to cover a standard "dual shock" style controller. While the board can be wired up for up to 12 buttons, it only comes with enough wires to cover 8 buttons. Unfortunately, that's how they just come. You can solder for the the remaining slots, but like yotsuya I am also trying to find out what kind of connector is being used. If anyone knows, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have not tried on the PS3. I have a PS3, so I will try hooking it up tonight. I will post my results.

PBJ gets a star! That looks to be the connector.

Here is the first website I checked:

http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1164

$0.75 per cable. I will check into ordering a batch as well.

Seems to me you could use one of these to make a 2 player classic cab:

P1 - joy
p2 - POV hat

3 buttons per
1 start per
1 coin per

plus an exit button - that's all the inputs and 11 buttons...

Well, you could do a 2player, 3 button panel?

1pjoy - joy
2pjoy - 4 buttons
3 buttons per player
2 coin
2 start
1 exit

Wouldn't that work?

Pretty sure they're JST XH 2-pin connectors.  They're used on battery packs.

If you are wiring the POV Hat mode as a shift function button, then I think you could do that.

Without the hat switch it would be 3 buttons short. (4 buttons for 2nd joy, 6 for game buttons, 4 for select and start buttons and 1 exit button needed)

If I were doing it, I would give P2 the dedicated joystick, then give P1 a real coin and start button. Player two would just need to hit the hat switch and press left on the joystick for coin and right for start. Then you could make hat switch and up as the game exit.

I am considering buying more. I am looking to see how the rest of this batch sells, and what kind of feedback I get on the encoder first.

I am also looking into other products that would interest people if I could get them cheaper from overseas. Suggestions would be welcome. I already looked into finding a cheaper spinner from overseas, but after talking to some arcade enthusiasts in China, I have come to the conclusion that they rarely use them or make them to begin with.

Got mine in the mail today.  Shipping was fast and packaging is perfect.  Thanks Vigo!  The board looks nice from what I can tell.  It does turn out that it doesn't work with the x-arcade switches so I'll need to go get the other connectors.  Does anyone know what type of connectors they use?

Thanks!

Just gave soldering the connectors a try and it worked like a charm.  Thanks!  Vigo, do you have anymore left?

I'd really love to find something, and I am seriously looking into it. I understand why some would want an $80-150 spinner, but there has got to be some alternative out there. It's a metal shaft with an encoder. A ball mouse has a more similar encoder board, and they can be found at the dollar store.

Paid for the board on Sunday and got it in the mail yesterday on Wednesday. Tried to swap it in to my madcatz TE stick and it worked. Going to use the 2 boards I got for some side by side fighting mame goodness.

Hey Snaake! The button mapping is actually in small print on the back of the board. K11 and K12 are the buttons when you push in the analog stick. For reference though, the buttons from left to right are: Triangle, Circle, X, Square, L2, R2, L1, R1, Select, Start, Left Analog button, Right Analog button. The joystick inputs on the top are in order of Up, Down, Right, Left.

Hey Malenko, I have one left, and it is all yours. Just let me know when you are ready to pay. Oh, and according to my wife, there is no such thing as "stuck in Taiwan"  ;)
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

For anyone else looking to purchase, my wife is currently working with a friend in Taiwan who has a China bank account. We are hoping to get some more of these while avoiding outlandish purchasing agent fees. If we can get this deal going, it would be worth it for us to continue to sell some goods for a while longer. We might also pick up a few different items as well. Stay tuned!

Nice, I haven't been to the East side of Taiwan, next time I can get to Taiwan, I will definitely be visiting that area. Most my time has been in the south, around Tainan and Kaohsiung.

OK, Boards are back in stock, with some improvements. See my updated first post for details.

Here is the short version of the update

  • Boards are back
  • They are still $14.75, but now the board comes will all .187 terminals, meaning that they are wider and accept most joysticks and switches
  • I am now offering additional wires for people who want to utilize 12 buttons instead of 8. The cost for the board with the extra wires is $17.50
  • People who have already made a board purchase and want additional wires can get them from me for $3.50 shipped per set.

PM me if you are interested! Be sure to let me know if you are interested in the version with the extra wires or not.

Thanks!!

I have a question, do these boards have a 5volt area so that optical joysticks like the Sanwa flash, Happ/Wico P360, etc can work properly?
and as regards to the PS3, do they have a Button to activate "Home"?

either way. PM SENT!

These don't have anything for an optical joystick. It doesn't have anything to activate home on the PS3 either as far as I can tell. I'll check with the manufacturer next time I need to place an order to see if they have anything that would fit those needs better. If I find anything, I will definitely let you know!

You ever figure out a way to simulate pressing the PS Home button with these things on a PS3?

I know I am letting the cat out of the bag early here, but this product does solve that problem.

Hi Reviga,

I think there is a 10 post minimum needed before you can send a pm. I will just give you the information right here.

I calculated the cost for you, with the added shipping and crossboarder fee, the total cost for the encoder would be $18.00 exact. If you are interested in buying, just post here. I will send you a pm for payment instructions.

For the Rapidfire and Autofire options, I will just paste in what I put in the instructions. If you still have questions on it, feel free to ask. :)

rapid fire. You may use this function on as many buttons as you want at once.

AUTO: This is like rapid fire, but when you put a button in Auto mode, it will keep the button in rapid fire
without you even pushing the button. To use, hold down the auto button and press the button you wish to
have on auto. As soon as you turn the button on auto, it will continue to rapidly fire until you turn it off. You may use this function on as many buttons as you want at once.

CLR: The Clear Function is used to turn off the turbo and auto functions. To clear turbo or auto on any
button, hold down the clear button and push the button you wish to remove auto or turbo from. Repeat this
process for every button that you want to have cleared.

Thanks!

Hi Rveiga,

PM sent. There is the extra cost for the additional button wires, and the shipping is slightly different with two boards, but the final price is in the PM. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks!

I honestly don't know the technical side of the open slots on this board, but I did get a chance to speak with the guy who designed the board last night. The slots are just there for possible future revisions, but this board is set with a 12 button limit on it. I don't know if that could be changed or not.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys, I bought one of these from ebay a few weeks back after reading the original thread on their discovery - it turned up yesterday.
I finally got around to having a play with it today, and wondered if anyone had had any luck changing the config settings. Namely the default hat/pivot selection on startup.
Currently the Red LED is default, but would like it to boot straight to the green LED to avoid having to run another (Mode) switch if possible.

I have had a look through the properties section in the device manager, and I imagine its just a 0 value that needs changing to 1 somewhere, but lack of info on these boards is making it tough.

Thanks in advance

Thanks, Jim! I haven't heard back from anyone having any issues with the board, but that at least does seem pretty basic of a problem, thankfully. Although it can sometimes be hard to see that stuff visually, I will check over the solder points of what I got on hand.

Just checking, has anyone tried this board with ubuntu/linux? I tried checking this out, but I quickly realized i don't have a clue when it comes to getting things working on ubuntu.

I am assuming it works fine, since the device just reads as a generic HID usb gamepad, but I would love to know for sure.

I love the product, I just wanna say, the included wires could be a taaaaaaaaaaaad longer. My cp is barely 20 inches in length, and them buttons on the far ends are hanging on for dear life to them wires, and my board is mounted in the middle... just sayin'

Yeah, I hear ya there. The wires come in only one length, I asked the manufacturer. The current length works hunky dory for setups where the joystick and buttons are in normal placement, but when there are control panels that spread out over a wider space or have admin buttons off to the side, it stretches things out to the limit. The best fix is to build a few extensions, buy a package of male and female .187 quick connects at the hardware store, and crimp one of each on to a length of wire. Make a few of those and attach them on the end of the existing wires that are stretched out.

That's my plan for the ones going to the coin door, otherwise the other wires just barely made it to their destinations. 12 inches really should be the norm, these clock in at just under 8".

Right now, I only have the ReMatch boards on hand. Shipment of the regular ZD encoders is still not in. Judging from my tracking, it will probably be in Saturday or Monday now. I can let you know when they come in.

Hey Vigo. Am trying to set up a CP with one of these nifty little encoders and I have a question. How the heck does one get the Esc button to work with one of these? I'm using it for mame with mala as a FE but for the life of me I cannot get this figured out. You have any advice? Or anyone else for that matter?

Oop! Sorry, I somehow had it in my mind that I responded to you. I must be going senile.  :dizzy:

You can remap the exit button in Mame with a press of a button or a combination of buttons. Just while in game, hit tab on the keyboard, goto the "Input (general)" option, then "User Interface" then you should see the quit is mapped to the esc button. (I think they call quit "UI Cancel").  You can remap this to be whatever button you want from the encoder. If you push more than one at once, it will know to quit only when you push both buttons. I have mine set to quit when I push both "Coin" and "start" at the same time.

I don't know if you are using other emulators as well, but there is a method you can use if you come across a pesky emulator that won't let you remap the escape button. Just download Joy2Key. It is a small program that runs in the background and translates joystick presses into keyboard inputs. You can set a button to equal ESC or whatever button is needed to exit your emulator, then leave the program to start up with your computer. You can also use Xpadder, and it has some awesome advanced features, but it does cost like $10. Joy2Key is free.

Hope that answer is what you are looking for. Let me know if you need anything else. Again, sorry for the delayed response.

I have two joystick with 4 bottom each also a 1 and 2 player bottom and may two coin bottom, will I need only one of these or two? Can two be connected if I decide to build a 4 player?

Thank you

Cool thanks! Found it. Now, how do I get Mame to remember what I set the esc button too? Every time I exit out of the program and go back in its "re-mapped" to the default of the "esc" button again.

That's strange. Is your mame.ini file set as 'read only'? That's the only thing that I can think of.

I probably should move this over to the software forum. I don't have a mame.ini file. I got a MAME32.ini and a MAME32ui.ini  Both of which are not set to "read only" I have a sinking feeling its something to do with WIN 7 that I am running on this machine. I have been reading some bad stories on how 7 likes to screw with these and other system type files....

Nothing right now. The guy I work with who produces these boards does currently do some 360 stuff, but nothing I will sell. They are not super cost effective, and Haruman does a good job with gamepad hacks. I have pressed him for a combo PC / PS3 / 360 board though, and he might be making something down the road. Nothing in the immediate future though.

Hi Vigo,

I'm interested in a ZD board or 2 but can't PM yet. I'm planning 2 fight sticks with japanese sticks and buttons, PC only and not sure if I should go with the ReMatch or not.

Thanks

Hello Moo,

If you are going with PC only, you can probably just use the regular ZD encoder instead of the ReMatch. Save some money there. I am guessing since you are looking to build fight sticks, you would want to order the extra button wires though, so that you can have 12 buttons instead of 8. However, the ReMatch does have a longer USB cable, in case that is important to you.

I can also swap in .110 wires for the Regular ZD encoder for Japanese buttons, as well as the 5-pin harness if that is the type of joystick you are using.

If you are interesting or have questions let me know. I can sent you a PM so you can reply to me directly.

Looks like my account is to new to PM you - if you could shoot me the info for one with all 12 wires that would be great.  I plan on using a JLF as well as Japanese buttons if that makes a difference in connector ends.

Thanks!

Hi Vigo;

3 Things.

First, got the encoder boards in 4 days!  Thanks!
Secondly, where do I go to add to your seller rep?

and lastly......

Here is the tricky thing, I am powering a Happ P360 stick which require 5 volts.  I was wondering of the ZD Remate has connector pins for that?  I am hoping I don' t have to draw it from a separate USB slot but will do it if I have to.  Thanks!

Hey P.H.U.

Thanks! I'm glad you got them quickly. Sorry my reply is a slow though.

I think seller rep is temporarily out of commission while the forum is being updated. I am think it will come back but I am not sure when. I think normally it is just clicking the rep number by the persons name and then clicking a link that says add seller rep.

For the 5 volts on the P360, I think the ZD Rematch can be used but I honestly don't know the current draw from it. I am guessing the 360 would not draw so much that the ZD would have trouble powering itself, but that would be a possibility. You can try the tapping into the two upper most unused soldering points on the left of the board. I believe they are the auxiliary 5v points. I think that would be the best spot to use.

Yes, you can. You can have multiple of these in at the same time. I have personally used 4 of these at a time with no problems. If you are not using too many buttons for player 3 and 4, you might even be able to squeeze it all in with 3 encoders.

The only pitfall you could run into is that if you unplug and plug these back in while playing, it can change around the order of the players, which happens with most USB joystick devices. Under normal cabinet use, you would be leaving them plugged in all the time have no problems.

I just wanted to point it out since I have had a person use these for 2 player cabinets, with plug in and out add on controls for players 3 and 4. He was popping in and out during use, and the USB orders screwed up when doing so. It took tweaking to get the right encoders aligned with the right USB ID#'s so that he plug in player 3 and 4 without it affecting the order of player 1 and 2.

Seems like I can't PM either, I'd be interested in finding out if there's a flat rate for shipping to Canada or is it smarter for me just to use your ebay listing?

Hello,

I give international shipping at cost here. It should generally be cheaper through here directly than through ebay. I will PM you with a quote.

FYI, I only have one left in inventory until my next shipment comes in about a week from now. If you want more than one, it will take a little longer. Thanks!

Hi Vigo,

Thanks for the PM, seems I can't even respond to one, understandable anti-spam measures.  Well you've got me convinced, I'll take two, let me know through a PM when you have your next shipment as I'm in no magic rush.  For two, is the price different or simply multiply the amount by 2?

Thanks!

Hi there,
How many of these boards would I need if I were to do a set up for 2 player, street fighter style?

(2) 8 way joysticks
(2) push buttons

player 1, player 2 coins
restart, select

Anything else I've missed?

Thanks,

Hi Sq1ne,

These boards come standard with enough wires for the joystick and 8 buttons, with the option of buying 4 more button wires ($3 extra).

With your setup, it sounds like you would want 9-10 buttons for each player. You would want to order 2 encoder boards, and one extra wire set.

Let me know if you are interested and I will send you a PM with the payment instructions.

Thanks!
Vigo

After 1 year of researching and wishing ~ Its time to get off the pot and build me a stick.   Vigo I would like to buy a ZD Rematch ~ Im using Happ Buttons and a Zippyy Joystick (so the American size wires should work)

Received my 2 boards yesterday. :w00t Installed last night, cleaned up the cables a bit this morning.

They're replacing an iPac4 (with a PS3 adapter that still isn't working the way I need it to, despite Andy's best efforts to repair it ... ???) and they're doing a great job on both PC and PS3. Thanks Vigo!

Now, that said:

Any information on this? PS3 only recognizes the POV hat as a D-pad for fighting games (SF4, TTT2, etc.). I've got a couple of spare buttons rigged up and hanging out the back of my CP for now, but a permanent boot solution would be really, really ideal.

Awesome! I'm glad it's working out for you! In regards to booting in POV hat mode, I will check in with the guy who makes it. It will be a few days before I get the chance to ask him, but I'm hoping he has an answer.  8)

I would like to order one of these with wires for all 12 buttons ( not just 8 ) if it doesn't bring the total  to over $20.00

Thanks in advance,

Vigo, my man I'm assuming you still have these in stock, I might need a few, will these work with perfect 360 sticks? They require a common ground so I'm assuming I can tie all the top (or bottom) wires together and be good to go?

Hey Malenko! Yep, I got these in stock. To be honest, I have never wired a perfect 360 to it. I looked it over and think it should work. The directional inputs are all be common ground. The sanwa joystick port on there is common ground as well. I don't see it as being an issue, but I just never tried.

After looking through all the different choices out there, I've made the easy decision to go with a pair of these for my arcade cabinet.  Like so many others, I'm new here so I can't send PMs.  Shoot me a PM or email me @gmail.com

I am new to gaming and a member recommended me to get this encoder board from you for my joystick.  I do not know much so it might sound silly to some, is this board like a converting board that I see in some joystick kit that you allow you to plug in computer's USB port?  Can I do the JAMMA harness with this board?  Too much to learn.
Thank you

Looking to buy one of these. Would want the normal or the Rematch, whichever is first available.
If Vigo could PM me the cost to London United Kingdom, it would be great!

I have been looking at the IPAC4 for a 4 person mame machine I am working on.  That has 64 pins or something like that and have programmable inputs for save states and what not.  Can this device do that?  Also do the settings stick when the PC is powered off?
Thanks,
Rich

its not a keyboard encoder. When you plug it in the computer sees it as a game pad. You can use a program like joy2key to map button presses on the keypad to keyboard inputs.

:dunno Still no word on a restock date ??  :dunno His profile keeps sayin he has checked in that day but no posts since Dec 03 - so guess the vacation is lasting a bit longer than he originally expected but you'd think he would at least update the thread if he is indeed logging in to the site !

Patience, Vigo's good people.

No doubt ! - seeing that his pricing on these is what makes people wait for any word on availability (he's definitely not making a killing oon them) and can understand that he is out of the country visiting family so things can get extended but if he is logging into the site every day (unless the profile page is auto logging him in ) you'd think a few seconds to update with an ETA would be posted just so we'd know whether to wait or search out other options.

I'm back. I'm sorry to keep everyone hanging. I have an announcement today of the status of ZD encoders.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,131037.0.html

Thank you for waiting on me, but I will not be selling anymore. Feel free to hunt down the encoder on eBay though. It is easy to find, and the price is cheap.
