Donkbaca:

You can run ps3 controllers too. I think 360 controllers are better, but sane principles. You have the controls, set it up and at some games, then if you hate it, get pads

mrclean:

I use the original controllers for my consoles,

i.e. : N64,NES,SNES,SEGA GENESIS Etc..

I have every 8bit and 16bit console in my cab, and i ONLY use arcade controls ... much more practical and easy than have controllers everywhere. Besides, its a ARCADE cabinet haha

Donkbaca:

The thing that sucks about using original controllers is all the retro usb ports or adapters you have to buy and all the clutter you would have.  A PS3 or xbox controller has enough buttons to play any emu, plus they are wireless.

I have them on my cab, though I think I am going to build a dedicated home emu box instead and gook it up to the big tv

+1

The 8 and 16 bit games work well with arcade controls. All you need is a joystick and a row of 3 buttons.

The 32+ games get a little trickier because there are more buttons and button placement varies on the different controllers. I think configuring an assortment of controllers to multiple emulators would create a nasty rat's nest and be more aggravating than useful.
