Movie: Win Win
shmokes:
I'm gonna pull a Danny Galaga here cos this movie was so good, but most of you have probably never heard of it. It's about a struggling lawyer who coaches a terrible high school wrestling team on the side. With bills piling up faster than clients, he succumbs to the temptation to skim money from the estate of an old guy with dementia. Anyway, the movie is superbly acted by Paul Giumetti (not sure about spelling) and that guy who plays the CIA director in the Hellboy movies. I haven't laughed so hard at a movie, especially such a family friendly movie, in a very very long time.
The film gets a little tonally uneven near the end when, predictably, the lawyer's bad choices early in the film start to catch up with him. But it's all wonderful. See it immediately. It's a crime that films like this rarely get major studio distribution.
5/5

Paul Giamatti is a bloody great actor (have you seen him play John Adams in that TV show?), but I wasn't sure if I wanted to see this. I got burnt on 'Barnies Verson', which is probably really good, but that sort of drama doesn't appeal to me.
But you've nudged me into seeing this (",)
Grasshopper:
If you're a fan of Paul Giamatti then I strongly urge you to go and see Sideways. It's a film about two guys who go on a wine tasting holiday just before one of them is about to get married. It sounds awful from the description but don't let that put you off. It's one of the funniest and most perceptive films that I've seen for a long time, and the acting's superb.
shmokes:
Seen it. I agree; it was great.
shmokes:
I have. I asked a guy if demand for pinot noir went up after that movie became popular and he said it was absolutely absurd. Suddenly all anyone wanted to drink was pinot noir.
