MotoRace USA

----------------------------------------------------

ROMSet: motorace

----------------------------------------------------

Default Settings:
Fuel Reduced on Collision: Low
Fuel Consumption: Low
Speed Type: M/H (might change the score to go metric, and after all, it's not called MotoRace Canada!)
Stop Mode (Cheat): Off
Unused: Off
Invulnerability (Cheat): Off
Service Mode: Off

----------------------------------------------------

Another favorite from Fat Darrel's Pizza & Arcade.  Well, not a favorite, but intriguing.  As a kid, I didn't understand licensing--I knew this was a Williams game & thought Williams games were awesome, but it, like Make Trax & Moon Patrol, didn't have that Williams feel.

Anyway, after button-mashing through X-Men & trying out a handful of hectic games today, I decided to go with a soothing, relaxing, almost even meditative game.  MotoRace USA.

Hmm, I feel as if I'm repeating myself--I picked Make Trax not long ago, & MotoRace USA feels quite a bit like Bump 'n' Jump...minus the bumping.........and the jumping......

(High scores *do* save for this game, at least on my setup)

----------------------------------------------------

- One credit only!

- No continues or adding credits!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Tuesday September 20 (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2011.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.

- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Best of luck!

Thanks,
-Jason

Wow, is it already time for another game? Make sure you have also have travrusa.

Here's a two-game opener. I don't know how my ranking changed from 69th to 70th from the end of the game to the scoreboard....

I'm guessing a car passed you while you were skidding on your final crash.

Game 3 was a goodie.  I coasted into Chicago on an empty gas tank.  I almost made it to New York!  The last stage is pretty wide & barren for a while, then it gets really twisty & skinny.  I goofed too many times there.

I prefer the off-road segments, because, if you hang out by the sides, you'll get tons of bonus points & gas cans.

I just realized that I bet the same musician who wrote Moon Patrol's funky music also wrote this groovy music.

67,200!

Thanks,
-Jason

Could be, they're both IREM games, and I believe the boardsets are pretty much the same, so it wouldn't surprise me if the same people worked on them. They're the same pinout too, so if you have one or the other, you should be able to swap boards :) (you'd have to rotate the monitor though). 10 Yard Fight and Kung Fu Master are also similar, although those have up and down on the joystick (MP and Motorace are left/right only)

Upped my score a bit...was going really good thru Houston, then had a horrible time on the next one to St Louis. I had max fuel at the start and still didn't make it, final score was 43,200.

Gettin' close to ya jason :D just got 59,100. Found something frustrating...don't run out of gas and pick up a gas can while you're coasting to a stop...it won't count ::) Anyone else besides the 2 of us playing? ???

This game is pretty fun...you certainly can get into a bit of a trance (especially with the music).

If I can get to NY, I think the bonus would help my score.

Okay, I did it.  The game sends you back to LA, and it feels a good bit faster the second time around.

The music actually reminds me of cheesy games like Hot Shocker. These sort are definitely the Yugos of the period. This one has exceeded my interest limit.

I was finally able to beat 500cc in first place (which gives a 20k bonus).  I was also in 4th by CHI, which was another 10k.  The next class is 750cc, and I only got to the third stage there.

We got ourselves a competition!  (if only a small one...)

For some reason, I'm not getting notifications on this topic--I wasn't aware that there were more posts--glad to see a bit of interest.

128,200.

I got 10th on the 50cc race & had finished the perspective segment on St. Louis -> Chicago, saw the planes fly overhead, & ran out of gas.  Soooooo close!

If you run out of ideas, how about Tapper again but make the goal to see what the highest level is that you can get to.  That is the number in the lower right corner.

Just got my mame cab back up after 3 months of no hard drive.  Trying out this one in a few minutes.

MY FIRST BUILD:

drum roll.....................

And the winner is....me!  Jasonbar!  Again, I won a game that I picked, but I swear that I'm no expert at the game.  I tried playing it for an hour or so last night & couldn't get even close to my high score submitted...  Guess it was a fluke...

Runner up: 51mmz0rz

Since I picked this game, 51mmz0rz gets to pick the next game & start the next thread.  Have at it, & may you pick something more popular than my pick! : )

Thanks,
-Jason

I am not looking at what has gone before but maybe one of these would be fun?

Motocross
R-type
Arkanoid  ;D - but needs a spinner
Quantum - only just got this and it's nice, simple, fun but needs a trackball
Double Dragon
Last Duel
Wardner

Sorry for hating the early stuff :)

Hmmm...51mmz0rz hasn't logged on for 4 days.  Perhaps he's not set up for notifications on this thread in which he posted.  I'll send him a PM in a moment.

I propose that, if he doesn't log on & follow through by tomorrow (Fri 9/24), we let 3rd place select the next game & start the thread.  That would be CrazyKongFan.

Agreed?

Thanks,
-Jason

Sorry everyone, I got distracted since my girlfriend came back to town on Monday, and I am starting to pack for a cross country move happening next week.  Please have someone else choose the game so I don't slow you down.

Thanks,

Already done :) (I chose Gaplus). Sounds like you have a full plate...good luck with the move!
