Pictures of my made and sold it mame cab
« on: September 09, 2003, 08:33:41 pm »
Here's a pic of my mamed killer instinct cab that I did and sold. Oh and before anyone freaks on me I got the cab and it was converted to golden tee so there was nothing original killer instinct about it left on the insides. But the side art was left intact all I did was make a new panel and marquee and toss a computer inside.

Thanks for the comments well I got the cab for $150
sold it for $950. The trackball was a really good condition
atari 2-2/4" used trackball. And the overlay is just this stuff the the local arcade parts place sells kinda pricey $10 a foot. Oh and here's a close up of the buttons after sticking led's in them.

Jeez about the overlay this is about as helpful as I can get. I got the overlay from starburst coin machines parts dept I just aksed for their black overlay with matte finish. here's what it looks like off the roll.

PS this stuff really stands up to wear really good.

Hi Edgedamage,

Good profit!

I know Starburst Coin. I bought my parts from them and went to an auction last spring. You must be a fellow GTA resident. It's good to see that I'm not the only mame dude around here.

How wide is that overlay?

Cheers,

Starburst website: http://www.starburstcoin.com

I think you'd have to call for an available parts list.  I can't find it on the site.

Starburst Coin carries a lot of the Happ Controls stuff and they even use Happ part numbers. It's convient for those in the Toronto area.

I wouldn't be surprised that it's one of these at 40" wide.

AHHH ok sorry I was busy posting boxes to USA customers when I get back from the post office I will give measurments. And a good price per foot if I sell in CDN funds man it's almost free for USA'rs. Ok the measurments are 40" wide. Custom orders are no problem if you only want 20"wide by 12" deep no problem. Example if peice you order comes out to $12.00 for measured piece + shipping = $18.00USD I wil only charge $13.50CDN PM me if you want any. Also I use the XE.com conversion service.

Sounds good to me.   Need to go home and get measurements for the size I might want.    I will contact you for a price.   Hopefully I do not need something bigger than 40".   I will let you know.

How thick is this stuff (ie:  like a thick or thin piece of paper)?

Can I cut it with a simple utility blade?

Can I peel off the backing and stick into place, or do I need to wet this down to active a glue ?

About as thick as two peices of standard photocopy paper. And cuts great with exacto knife and has white backing paper to protect sticky surface.

I just ordered 10' of the Black Pica self-stick vinyl (part #49-0474-10) from HappControls for $2.35/foot.   The roll is 49" wide and you can order by the foot.

The price is normally $5/foot but it is on sale right now.   If you search their site www.happcontrols.com for "vinyl" you will see the black pica vinyl and other vinyl available.   Their site does not mention the sale price, so I was pleasantly surprised when I called to order and found that I would be saving more than half the posted price  :o.

Also, I have no idea whether other vinyl selections are on sale or not, but for $2.35/foot I got some of the Black Pica vinyl.

Hope this helps people......

MAN I am so jelous of the great prices our friends in the USA get on parts :o. Anyway for our Canadian counter parts I went to starburst today and got a updated price on overlay and their price is $6.00 a foot grrr. But it also comes in blue and red with the same texture. So go forth and make some cool blue panels!!!

Don't forget about that great stuff Kelsey of Oscar Controls got from Parts Express.  I want to get some nice textured vinyl like that for some upcoming projects...

Yeah, but if I remember, that stuff is only 20" wide, which is good for a control panel top but not for the sides of a cabinet.  HappControls has the Black Pica vinyl and maybe other vinyls (I have not asked) for 49"x100' if you want it at only $2.35/foot.
Actually, the Black Pica might be the only one in 49" widths, the other vinyls I think come in 40" widths....anyway still wide enough for a side of a cabinet with no seams.

Here are the other vinyls Happ has available.  I am not sure if all of them are on sale or not, but I do know their site does NOT show sale prices for this stuff, so you need to call them 1-888-BUY-HAPP and they will tell you it is on sale over the phone.

Note:  The Black Pica vinyl is "D"

I didn't even think of coating the sides of the cab with this stuff!  Good idea.  I'll have to see if it's within the budget.

One of my friend works at a printing company and they use alot of vinyl for outdoor jobs, they leave a 6month warranty on outdoor prints on it so it can take alot of punishment  :D
Gonna use it on my next cab instead of painting it, already did some tests and it looks super slick and thanks to my friend I get it and all my marquees/sideart/overlays hella cheap  ;D  :P

I emailed HAPSS, and couple of messages later this is what happened:

======================
It is sold by the foot.
1-99 feet would be $4.90 per feet
100+ feet would be $2.35 per feet.
Yes it is stick-on type just as you described.

=======================

So, as you can see, this is NOT on sale?!  ???

It seems the Black Pica vinyl is the only one on sale.    It is listed in Happs "Vending Specials".  Look on the last page, you will see the vinyl is $2.35/foot for the 49" wide roll or $2.18/foot for the 40" wide roll

http://www.happcontrols.com/monthlyspec/v903.pdf

It seems the HappControls salesperson you talked about does not know about the offer.    I would call and talk to Debbie ..... since she sold it to me.

Good Luck
