My Humble attempt at a Juke - (Revision 2)
« on: August 20, 2011, 09:41:42 pm »
EDIT: Finished product (To save you reading whole thread)

************************************************************

I finished the first juke I built and sold it on unfortunetly, but I got an offer I couldn't refuse.

Original project thread > http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=100331.msg1208197#msg1208197

So I started on one that is very similar again. This time I have beefed up the sound system (a 10inch sub, 2 x 6.5 inch full range and a 1200 watt car amp), recessed the speakers, made it smaller and will change the shape slightly. I am now stuck as to weither I should laminate it black like the first or stain and varnish it and leave a wooden finish. If I do laminate it I think I'm going to leave the speaker exposed aswell. Anyway, heres a few pics so far. I've glued and curved 5 layers of 6mm plywood and recessed the speakers so far. I'm waiting on a touchscreen to be fixed before I shape it anymore. Ignore the height of the back pieces. They will be chopped down to size soon and the back curved over to meet the screen.

A quick update.

Next job to seal it, paint it black, then laminate it black. Still have to cut out the bass reflex holes in bottom corners. Think I'm going to spray the speaker cones and monitor bezel to add colour. Tested Amp and speaker system and it sounds great.

Awesome design.  I'm impressed how well you got the speakers to sit flush on a curved surface. :applaud:

Thanks for replies! Yeah, it was tough to get the speakers to sit flush as there is about a half inch gap on the 10'' sub when it rests against the front. Thats half the reason I had to make the front so thick.

Biggest problem I think I'm going to have is how to cut laminate flush around speaker holes ? Router won't work as the recess on the edge of the holes isn't deep enough for a flush trim bit. Suppose a little dremel multi-tool thingy may do it but I think it'll end up a little rough looking.

Right, so I brought the main box home last night, put edges on, speakers and screen. All the insides still need to be installed / wired up. Will post pics of the final final when its done. Theres a little bit where the laminate came away beside the sub but that'll be fixed in time.

Can someone explain what is going on in this picture?  I thought this was a juke.  A few speakers, computer, and touchscreen.

One other thing.  I really don't like that thread title of yours.

If you are going to call this a humble attempt you should crap out your design a bit.  How about "My totally awesome attempt at a juke"?
