So my mom is having one of her friends come over to help build her new patio/deck and some kitchen additions. He is bringing over all of his saws/router/tools. I talked to him today and he said if I get the MDF and pay for the saw blades he will cut out the cabinet for me and help laminate/assemble the whole thing. The takes a whole lot of stress out of the project, because I have absolutely no woodworking skills at all. Any tips on assembly as this will be my first cabinet? |

Stringers, wood glue and screws! It will be rock solid. And keep an eye on that dude, I think he's trying to bang your mom! |

What are stringers? Also my mom and dad got divorce like a two years ago... She needs to start dating and stuff, but this guy is obviously gay. Gaydar was at defcon 10 as soon as he started talking and waving his arms about and getting all giddy about the home improvements! ;D |

Your comments cracked me up. They are strips of wood that go inside the cab where the sides meet. If you think of an "L" shape as a corner of your cab, a stringer would be a strip of wood that goes inside the inner bend of the L. It gives you extra surface area to glue, and also allows you to use longer and stronger brads/screws from the inside so there is nothing showing or any holes to fill on the outside. Most actual arcade cabs were manufactured this way. |
