Junix Bartop Arcade
« on: August 18, 2011, 01:27:46 am »
Hello, is a pleasure to be part of this forum.
As all of you I am passionate about arcades and I have done somethings to remember the old and good times, such as arcade controls for connecting to a PC, Mame Mobile, I had a old arcade cabinet that was completely restored for me and ran Mame in a PC with a adaptation card to JAMMA.
I am here to announce my newest project: Junix Bartop Arcade.
This project I will describe in detail all the construction steps, this might help those who are beginner, I guess.
Also I will have some doubts on new items I'm thinking to put on this release.
News which I refer are SNES joystick adapters and usb ports.

In the second post I will show the first project drawings that I made in AutoCAD (software that definitely I'm not good), describe all of specifications and in accordance with the development I'll be posting the pictures.

I'll be very happy with the comments, suggestions and criticisms.

Thanks,

Junix

As I said, follow some pictures from the project.

All of pieces:

Control Panel:

Side part:

Well, I'm waiting to get the wood pieces of which I have to cut the woodwork, while I went shopping.

This is my little sound amplifier:

On saturday I'll post more pictures.

Hello and welcome,
It looks like it will be a nice project.
I am using the diamond pattern for the buttons on my project too, and though I was really hesitent to go with that pattern at first, I found that after testing, I really like it.

Good luck on your project

Thanks mgb.

I suppose that in this case is a good "standard", because of 17" lcd monitor, I'm using a cabinet with 46cm width and you can play together with someone.

Hi,
The largest is the real side shot, but the another is to describe how it will be mounted.
Where the parts will be placed, if I'm being clear.

I wonder if he may be talking about your top drawing. it shows two side views, each with different numbers

Have to be cm unless you want a 46 inch wide bartop.  46 cm is more like 18 inches.

Right on!

I am looking forward to seeing this build.

I will be building both a SF and MK bar top this winter once the bad weather is upon us.

The theme of this bartop is Super Ghouls and Ghosts.

By the way, where are you from?

Hi people,

I'll use original Ghouls N' Ghosts cabinet art to side parts, bezel and marquee, but I'm trying to do something different to control panel.
I'd like to know what you think about my control panel art.

I don't think I like the yellow.  I'm not sure what I'd do though - I like the CP art but I feel like you may have to cover too much of it with the controls.   You are already losing a ton of Arthur because his entire weapon and part of his head will be obscured.  Also, I can't even read the labels underneath the buttons and I'd also ditch the logo in the bottom right - save something like that for the marquee (maybe).  It's definitely a good start though and I'm sure people way more artistic than me can chime in with additional thoughts...

Also, are you sure that you have enough room for 2 players?  The 2P joystick looks like it will interfere with the 1P action buttons - you might be competing for real estate during a heated 2 player game.  It looks like you have some room on the right though to spread it out a little.

Thank you javeryh for you opinion, it is very important to me.

Actually, this is the first "version".
I need to rearrange the buttons positions, define the colors, etc.
I'm waiting for more comments  ;D

Its looking very good for first rev but I agree, the yellow isn't quite right. any halos like that around the buttons would also maybe be better if it were a bit more tranparent.
You also should try and put as much seperation between the player 1 buttons and the player 2 joystick.
keep up the good work

heh, I just reread what I wrote and I hope I didn't sound too critical...  :-\

Anyway, I think with a bunch of input from the guys around here you could push your initial design into something really really nice.  I know it's happened to me more than once!

The placement is much better now. the transparent halos sre definitely better too.
its looking good.

to me its weird seeing "1st player", "2nd player", rather than "player 1", "player 2" but thats me

Very nice theme and well done cabinet!  :applaud:
What the games are you planning ?

Oh, and two questions that will help me decide if I go to a bartop or a slim full cabinet:
How much weight ?
And what is the footprint ? (as a bartop we need a "bar" to fit it atop)...

Thank you Pharoah.

Hi Stefano, I like the oldest games, like a Galaga, New Rally X, Gyrus, Rygar, Ms. Pac Man, but I have kids, and I must to put more than this.
The weight is around 35Kg or more the name bartop is my wish to have one
