Botched controller hack?-New Guy Here
« on: August 14, 2011, 04:27:43 pm »
Hi. I'm new to these boards. This site is great btw. I've built a supergun before, and I now have two cabs (NeoGeo conversion inside a Rampage, and a Simpsons 4 player.)
So, anyway, I was trying to hack an old xbox controller. The problem is I whacked off a trigger button mechanism and I think I damaged the board. See the three pins on the right where it should have a little grey box? Is this something to be salvaged or just no biggie? I was planning on ruining this board during my attempt to solder wires to it. Help me, BYOAC, you're my only hope...

Ug. So +1 maybe I can get enough posts off this thread to be able to get more help around here. :(

Perhaps you may be better posting this in the console section of the forums.

You knocked off the trigger pot?

You can solder it back...

There may be a way to get around that, but I've never tried it with an original Xbox controller.  Holding the controller like you normally would, you could try putting a 10Kohm resistor from the center pin to the top pin.

Hey thanks. I don't think I'm really qualified for that kind of stuff, though.

Are you even using the triggers?  If not, you could probably just leave it off.  If you wanted to map the triggers to buttons you would probably need to use some kind of goofy circuit in there anyway.
