Cocktail cabinet arcade build - my first 'real' project of any kind!
frotter:
Been a while since an update, and I have had a fair amount of time to work on the cabinet, so it is getting pretty close to being finished - is it wrong to be feeling a little excited when you get this close to finishing a project!!
Anyway I have completed most things I just need to paint the cocktail lid and mount it, then cover it with a sheet of plexi/perspex to finish it off. And of course I need to finish configuring the computer with MAME.
Also, what do people recommend in terms of a front end. I am split between Hyperspin and MaLa. Any pro's / con's would be appreciated.
A shot of a few of the plans I made for the build. I know I went overboard with the design, but that is just me!
The cabinet with all control panels attached and most of the iPac wiring completed. It was great to see that all of the buttons and joysticks worked first time! I got all the grounds, wiring, etc right! That was a massive relief.
This is a shot of the back panel. There are a number of 'admin' buttons, but my favorite is the switch that can toggle between the control panels. This will enable me to only have either the vertical of horizontal ones functioning at any one time to avoid people playing with buttons or joysticks and interrupting game play.
I had to have a bit of a play of one of my all time favorite games, 'NBA Jam'. Lots of fun!
Cutting the top out with the jigsaw.
The top sitting on the monitor. I just need to paint it black and then mount the monitor underneath it.
It is all getting very close now!

Looking good. What size and kind of monitor are you using
frotter:
Thanks for the comment. The monitor I purchased was a ACER 21.5" (Model V223HQBD). It works really well. The one thing I did find was that on side with the two players the angle meant the screen was very washed out and I didn't know what to do. In the end I read somewhere that turning the monitor upside down you get a lot better viewing angle, so I tried that and it works. The viewing from the two player side is now perfect.
I have also nearly finished. The top has gone on and the perspex/plexi is done. I am just tidying up the software side of things with Hyperspin and CPWizard and it will be done. I'll post some final pics this weekend.
The last thing will be to decide on some artwork to put on top. Something very simple and minimal. One idea was to have a Pac-man in one corner and in the opposite corner a Ghost with power pellets around the edges. Does that sound ok?
