After seeing him in 127 Hours I am fairly convinced that James Franco is capable of playing just about any role well.

I know we have talked about this before in another thread, but why does everyone have such a hard on for James Franco in that movie? I think ANYONE in that role could have performed the same way he did. It wasnt that emotional to me, the nature of the situation is what sold it, not really his acting.  :dunno

The originals didn't cover this, and I don't remember if the awful Marky Mark remake did (?). This new one would have to be considered a prequel not a reboot, right?

The trailer looks cool, my only issue is with how this fits into the first Planet Of The Apes. In between the time the apes start to take over in this one and the original movie, mankind still has to launch a ship into space and wipe itself out.

It is implied in the original that man ended the modern world and apes evolved into our place. I suppose there is some wiggle room there with the apes destroying the world, but I don't like the new movie changing that premise of the original... Its one of the great twist endings of all time.

You seem to be forgetting the two original movies where two of the apes go back in time to before apes took over and then their son leads the rebellion of the ape population.  They were Escape from the Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.  I think this would be considered a reboot of the story told in those.

That's nonsense.  Actors try and fail to convincingly portray harrowing experiences all the time.  Much more often than not.
