First Arcade Cabinet Build
jrock2004:
So a colleague at work brought me onto the idea of building my own arcade cabinet. So I went only and bought the joysticks, buttons, daisy chains, female connectors and wiring. So while waiting for the parts I started to think about how I want to build this cabinet. I decided not to build a full enclosed cabinet, but I wanted a pedestal one. So I will come back and update this thread with pictures of my progress. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

First tip: use this forum to host your images. I can't even keep count of the number of projects who have lost their images because the external image hosting service went belly up. Flickr might also decide to cut external links to force people to view publicity on their own website, etc.
Second, if you're going to have four buttons in the lower row anyway, might I suggest to go with the red/yellow/green/blue setup of the Neo-Geo MVS system? It would be less confusing for some people when playing MVS games, IMHO.
I hope you don't play with your right arm in this position when there's another player with you, it might restrict his movements a bit. ;)
Also, do you have an image of the design of your cabinet?

Big +1, but, to Saint, would SMF have some plugins or something that would make attaching images to posts easier? Or am I totally missing something. Right now, I have to go to the image posting thread, post, attach, copy the links and then post to the real thread I'd like to attach the image to if I want the image to "show up" in the thread posting. Royal pain.
I checked the SMF site and they appear to have a host of "image upload enhancement" plugins, but they all seem to run on later versions of SMF. Maybe this is just a cost/time issue (I can easily imagine that!).
Just thought I'd ask, anyway.
