Alien 3 The Gun machine with a Nanao-MS8-29FSG board
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:56:51 pm »
I have an Alien 3 The Gun machine with a Nanao-MS8-29FSG board that is attached to a 29” Toshiba tube
The board is burned looks like something shorted and actually burnt the links or something

What my question is
Can this board be just switch out with another type of board
Something that is not so hard to find or expensive

If so any suggestions on what type

I would like to just try to replace the board instead of trying to repair it

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx

fixing the broken board can be cheap AND easy. if you post up some pictures of the offending part, we can give you a rough guess as to what you need to do.

it could cost you less than 5 dollars and an hours worth of your time.

universal boardsets can be had for around 100 dollars but you usually end up in a whole other mess of issues with incompatibility with your original tube/yoke

wow that's a good'er!

i wouldn't say unfixable, but it would certainly be difficult, being that your missing a bunch of traces.

a couple of wires and some new resistors and it could be running again. but i'm thinking "what do those resistors feed?"  something is shorted and caused the power to burn up.

on a difficulty scale of 1 (easy) to 10 (hard)

for a newbie i'd say an 9 but for someone experienced in electronics a 4

That's what i was afraid of
I am not very experienced at repairing boards

Can you suggest a replacement that may not cause a lot of headaches changing out (or cost an arm and two toes to get it to me)
I am in the US (California)
The tube is a Toshiba 29" the numbers on it are A68KJV96X (i could take a picture of the yoke if it would help)
I would really love to get this machine running

I do have a Jamma PBC with a Metal Slug4 carterage that i may be willing to trade for a working Nanao-MS8-29FSG chassis

Thanx

in order to get a proper chassis that is not going to be a headache you will need to measure the yolk with a LCR meter. you need to find out what the inductance rating of it is. otherwise you end up with a chassis that the image is all warped and the lineairty is all screwed up..or worse case it works for 10 seconds and blows on you.

Wei ya has some pretty decent chassis meant for replacing older units, they have some meant for high induction yolks and some for low rated ones. people have had moderate sucess with simply measuring the resistance of the yoke, but to properly mach a chassis you need to test it with an LCR meter. To enable you to match a chassis to a yoke you will need to have two types of meter,a standard multimeter for the resistance and an lcr/inductance meter for the inductance.

Guessing yoke readings is not a good thing, an unmatched chassis will fry the horizontal output stage and in the extreme could kill the yoke

Lcr meters are always available on ebay at very reasonable prices

You need to read both resistance and inductance of each of the two parts of the yoke, vertical and horizontal.
Normally you find red and blue is the horizontal coil, green and yellow the vertical

Therefore you would set the multimeter to ohms and place one probe to the red and the other probe to the blue to give horizontal resistance and so on.

with all these readings you can send them to the distributor or use them to order one online.

you have a few posts under your belt now... i'm not sure how many you need to be able to post..., but try posting your offer in the buy/sell/trade... also try posting on KLOV.com who knows, you might get a bite.
