Spinner Hack Encoder Wheel
(1/3) > >>
Vigo:
Hi, I have an old arcade spinner that I want to hack a mouse to use it's optical sensor. My question is on the encoder wheel. Should I use the encoder wheel from the mouse, the old encoder wheel from the spinner, or do I need to make/buy my own?

If I use the mouse encoder wheel, how would I mount the encoder wheel on to the spinner shaft. The mouse encoder wheel looks kinda like this:

If I use the original encoder wheel, I noticed the teeth are much bigger, is that going to mess the optical sensor up?

Nephasth:
I don't think using the arcade spinner encoder will mess up the optical sensor of the mouse. I'm pretty sure if you used the mouse encoder, it would just make the spinner faster than if you used the arcade encoder. If it were me, I would try it with the arcade encoder wheel first to see how it performs. But I have never done a mouse hack before.

Could i use this to hack a wingman controller?
BobA:
Easiest way is to remove the receiver on the mouse board and turf the mouse encoder wheel.  The wires from the spinner attach to where the receiver was removed and to power.  This way there is no fiddling around with the mouse encoder wheel as the spinner encoder wheel is already mounted in the spinner. This is a standard mouse hack for spinner or trackball.
