Restoration forums
crsdawg:
that is a very good site, i've had it bookmarked for awhile now. it's not exactly what i'd call dynamic, and is updated infrequently.
another good choice for this kinda info would be the newsgroup rec.games.video.arcade.collecting. which can be accessed easily through google groups. here's a link:

with that said. i personally would like to see a dedicated byoc forum for classic vids in general. not just for restoration, but for any question regarding the old games.
i'm not sure if it exactly fits the theme of the website(which is a bit mistitled anyway, heh, heh), but it's not so far off topic to be unthinkable.

The GOOD forum for restoration is the klov.com forum. The community is small, but between us we own just about every classic game you could think of. Plus, alot of the klov people have extra cabinets coming out the yin yang. I got my Artic mini from a klov member in trade for a video poker kit, and I got my Battlezone from a klov member for free (but then did trade a monitor for the sticks). I recently turned down a free Tron cabinet from a klov member (it had sideart, but nothing else, and a quick bit of math told me that it wasn't worth it).
kspiff's ultra rare dedicated Jack the Giantkiller cocktail has belonged to THREE klov members (noice87, myself, and him). Heck, come to think of it, ALL my current games/cabinets came from klov members, except for the Kangaroo, and the video poker cabinet.
And klov is probably the single best forum for vector repairs. All the Atari vectors are owned by multiple members, and several members own Sega and Cinematronics ones as well. Laserdisc games are not as common, but I can think of a few Dragon's Lair owners there.
Ok, enough about that. Nothing wrong with a restoration forum here, but you would get better results over at klov, as there only seems to be about a half dozen people here really knowledgeable on the subject, while klov has like 50 of them.
But do be warned, klov does have a few militant anti-mame people, and almost ALL the klov members (and RGVAC members too), make fun of frankencabs (especially the ones where someone sticks an oversized control panel on a standard sized cabinet).

I don't think I restoration forum woudl work here, because with all due respect, a majority of people here don't have any respect for arcade cabinets and their version of "restoration" is loose at best.
One of the reasons I'm so grouchy all the time is because many people here get a cab that could be restored with minimum effort or cost and hack it up, putting on a nasty control panel, cup holders, ect. Their excuse is always "the side art was mostly gone" or "the cab was stripped when I got it". I realize this sounds extreme to many of you, but that is exactly my point.
A true preservationist would think nothing of restoring these beat up cabs, while most of the people here don't think it's worth it.
I am extremely pro restoration, but I don't think there is enough demand in this particular community for a dedicated forum. I've seen maybe 4 restoration questions this YEAR.
