Want to build CARNEVIL dedicated shooter, need PC advice.

F-14 Tomcat:

I've got a dual-core 3.0ghz machine set up now. Has 2gb ram and a asus engt430 1gb video card. (Nice considering this was given to me!)
I installed the latest mameUI version and appropriate carnevil files. V1.03 I believe. Anyway, it would run but had serious sound repeat, echo. I don't think gameplay was running fullspeed either.
I overclocked the processor in the motherboard bios (it gives automated options to do so, 10%,15%,20% and 30%).
Even up to the 30% increase, which the bios said was now running 3.9ghz, the clown intro screens between levels still stutters a bit, but gameplay worked at seemingly 100%.
In the properties for both the game and the Seattle file I checked the MT multi thread box (which is proper for a dual core, isn't it???)
Also checked the auto frameskip box as well (tried both with and without).

My question is. Would it make any difference to use MAMEPLUS? If so, what version? I hear of Mameplus, mameplus extended and mameplus plus??
What are the differences? I cannot find descriptions anywhere.
If one of these versions is key, what changes or tweaks should I make to bump performance for carnevil?
Badmouth, what mameplus is it that you use?

Thank you

BadMouth:

Sounds like it's not even running as well as on my 2.7Ghz machine.
That machine ran it about how you describe it with your maximum overclock.

Not sure if MAME UI would be the issue.
Here is the version of MAME+ that I use, but I only use it for testing and setting up the games.
My front end still launches the games with the plain mame.exe (not mamep.exe)
http://www.emucr.com/2011/04/mame-plus-v0142-r4854.html  (I'm only on .139 though)
Tweaking the settings in mame only nets very slight performance gains.
I just checked my settings and they aren't tweaked at all.  I don't even have multiple threading enabled.

My guess would be that there are too many things running in the background.
(antivirus, system restore, messenger, network stuff, coupon printers  :P  )
Delete all programs that won't be used and disable all unnecessary services.
Guide to which services to disable can be found here (scroll down to "popular content")

I have no doubt the computer you're using can run it full speed without any overclocking.
Another thing to try is running the clone (v1.01) instead of the parent (v1.03)

Are you running 64bit? There is a huge speed boost from the 64bit version of mame.

The game would probably get a boost from using a 64bit OS, but I only had license keys for XP32

Bah, when you said that, it was allll the way up at the top of the post.
We're living in the now.
