Do you get the menus and everything too?  I haven't done it for DVDs either but I am thinking about giving it a shot later this summer for when we get our new TV room.

I have a les mis 25th ann. concert blu ray (original).

I also have a laptop, and an external blu ray drive.
However, I can't even play the blu ray...
(No, I don't need to rip it, just play would be fine...)

is there any free blu ray player software out there ?

when connected the drive and disc put in, I can explore the drive and see the files, but I simply cannot play it like on a blu ray player...

any suggsetions ?

I tried vlc, no luck. media player also no good.

Does the WDTV play them at the correct resolution and frequency?

I'm not really up to date on what the current versions do or don't.  There's a WD Live and Live Plus and I think the main difference is the Plus does netflix and other popular streaming services.  I think they both have wired and wireless networking built in.  Since my old version can do 1080p and digital audio I'd assume the new ones do also.  I'd imagine players from other companies can do the same.

I don't know which players if any can handle bluray menus since I only store the feature video.  My old WD doesn't handle DVD menus, but I haven't updated the firmware in a long time so that may be outdated info.

I don't bother anymore, DVD looks good enough for me.  Heck Divx HD looks brilliant.

BR is just good for the Extras.
