Jukebox CD adapter (LAST unit and THAT'S IT FOREVER)
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:59:09 pm »
UPDATE 06/05/2017

I have 1 kit, without hard drive. After that, that is the end... the last 1 in my possession.

If you are able to scrounge up a 44 pin IDE laptop drive of the under 80gb variety, those will work. I've been informed for some reason over 80gb drives won't work. (firmware limitation issue or something) and for some reason WD "Blue" drives of the 80gb variety don't work

or if you can find a 44 pin male to 40 pin male IDE adapter....

https://www.aliexpress.com/item-img/EXPRESS-34mm-eSATA-USB-1-PORT-CARD-ExpressCard-power-esata/325643871.html

to convert it to a standard IDE and use a regular desktop drive....

or a 44 pin to compact flash adapter.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IDE-44-Pin-Male-to-CF-Compact-Flash-Male-Adapter-Connector-H1-/282055751581

a 30 or 40 gb drive will hold all the cd's quite easily. a 20gb is a little tight, but still works fine.

I have a few of these:

http://www.cdadapter.com/cd100mp.htm

this kit includes - the MP3 Board, Power Supply and a hard drive.
installation instructions available here: http://www.cdadapter.com/download/cd100mp3.pdf

scabbed from the manufaturer site:
Quote
Any jukebox that uses the 408322xx Central Control Computer can be converted to a hard disk MP3 music player. This includes models CD100A through CD100E plus others.

Unlike PC based players, which need jukebox modifications, require programs to operate and take too long to boot up, the CD100MP3 connects directly to your jukebox central control computer and mimics the mechanism control and CD decoder operations. This tricks the jukebox into thinking it is still hooked up to a CD player. It is impossible to tell the difference between a CD player jukebox and the hard disk player jukebox except when the CD is changing or you're doing a full CD initialization, the hard disk player is extremely fast.

The CD100MP3 works with any notebook or laptop 44-pin ATA/IDE 2.5 inch hard disk drive from 2 to 60GB with a maximum height of 9.5mm. A 20GB drive is about all you will need for a 100 CD jukebox. This allows you to have up to 33 songs on each CD using the high quality bitrate of 192 kBits/s. That's an incredible 3,300 songs on a player measuring only 3.22"W x 5.28"D x .80"H, 8 oz. The CD100MP3 player is totally self contained and does not require any programs on the hard disk to operate.

Installations a snap! Only three connectors, the 2 RCA audio connectors to your amplifier and a 3-pin communication connector to your CCC. The hard disk player is so small, that it can sit beneath your CD mechanism or you can remove the mechanism completely.

Best of all, Maintenance free... no skipping, no mechanical wear, no adjustments and never needs cleaning or lubrication. The hard drive even turns itself off after 30 seconds of no activity.

installation is very easy. once the drive is loaded up, it takes about 15 seconds to hook it up to the computer and about 2 minutes to initialize the drive with the computer.

normally sold without a drive these cost $280

yours for only $100 - I pay standard mail shipping to wherever. other shipping options, on your dime, by request.
or both for $180 - I pay standard mail shipping to wherever. other shipping options, again, on your dime, by request.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your PM, unfortunately I am unable to respond as this site produces "An Error Has Occurred! You are not allowed to access this section" message when I try to respond or even click on your name.  My account is active, but I guess an Admin may need to do some final approval...  I was just interested in your last non-HD MP3 player.  Thank you!

you need to actually contribute a certain number of posts to the forums before you can do that. it's to make sure you aren't a spammer just signing up to solicit the users. That's why you are getting the error message. It should probably just say you haven't reached the minimum number of posts to do this action instead of a cryptic error message.

it's only like 5 or 10 or something like that. been such a long time. post around and comment a bit on some posts and you'll be running in no time.

Signing up for updates to this thread!  I just picked up a trio of CD100s at an auction today (a G and two Hs).  Would love a little MP3 love in them.

I know that I am pretty late to this party, but my neighbor just gave me a cd100b. It will put the disk on the reader, spin back and forth a few times, then it says that disk isn't available.

I am pretty sure this means a bad laser based on all I have read.

I was hoping to switch over to mp3 in order to reduce the number of moving parts. Do you have any more of these kits available? I would not need the hard drvie, just the kit.

Cheers,

Jimmi

it does sound like a motor or laser problem.

I literally just threw one on my desk this morning. I have DLinkOZ in line for one if he's still interested (i'll pm him now and see) if not, I'll set something up with you Jimmi_Jones.

I'll get back at you, keep an eye on your messages.

Grab it, Jimmi_Jones!  I had a time crunch, so had to pay full price for it.  Even with that, it's worlds better than the standard CD player and I'm very happy I bought it.  Track changes are 1-2 seconds.

I am out of town with the family this weekend, but will be back home on Monday, is that soon enough to finalize the transaction?

no, those 2 models need a specially programmed version of the CD adapter to work with the computer in the jukeboxes. the CD100x series units won't work with them.

we only ever ran the 100 series units so we only ordered the 100 series adapters.

My CD-51 works like a CD-100 with the latest CD-100's firmware 4.3.

But, I bought a NSM Galaxy with a dead laser diode in the CDM-3 player.

okay i see, you've modified the 51 to be basically a 100. then yes, assuming the  CCC is in the 408322XX series it would probably work.

the NSM could be easily repaired. Happ sells replacement laser units for them so you can rebuild them.

https://na.suzohapp.com/products/jukebox_audio_equipment/95-2001-00

you might be able to find them on ebay too. they are a super common laser assembly and a super common issue with the laser bonking out.
