Could you manage without a cell phone?

You'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands first. It's great you don't think you need one, but I don't see the negative in having one. Have to find an address? Use mobile Google Maps. Need to see who's going to be home for dinner- send a text. See how far I jogged? Use the built-in GPS. And so on. I don't see any drawbacks.

Someone else pays your bill?

Smartphones are fine if you have restraint...but most people don't. I have "lost" many a friend to the smart phone. I invite friends over to hang out, and they just spend the whole time with their face buried in their smartphone, their attention span outside their phone is laughable. It just becomes no longer fun to hang out with someone who doesn't even look at you. It reminds me of the people in the movie Wall-e.

A person who thinks someone who stopped to save their life is an idiot deserves to die.  I don't care if they have a cell or not.  They stopped.

I don't have a cell phone and don't want one.  I'm good with that.  I don't need a $50/month "what if I'm pinned under an 18 wheeler and don't get that superhuman adrenaline burst" insurance device.  I don't make social phone calls and I have never seen a situation where it was unexpected that a phone was not reasonably available.

I don't have a problem with people who like their cell phones.  It's available, people use them, that's fine.  What I do have a problem with is the people who go out of their way to tell me that not having one is irresponsible.  Life goes on just fine without a radio leash in your pocket.

I guess you missed/ignored the part where 911 calls are free.  And you never need anything until you need it.  Once of prevention, yada, yada...
