I also didn't see it (or know of its existence) until after it was cancelled. It was cancelled because Fox didn't believe in it, they didn't promote it. And, of course, it had a bad time slot too, so I guess you're not all entirely wrong. :) But primarily, this show simply wasn't supported at all by fox. People just didn't know about it. Nobody watches the Emmy awards. That's not enough. But for christ's sake, all the Emmy awards should have been enough to wake up the executives at Fox.
By the way, make sure it doesn't happen again. At least three members of Arrested Development's cast are now doing Archer on FX, which, like Arrested Development, is by far the funniest thing on television. I mean nothing else even comes close. Main difference is that it's not cancelled yet. So get watching it and get the word out. It's on Thursdays and we're in the second season now. First season is on Netflix (it disappeared briefly when the DVD was released, but it's back). Speaking of the DVD, if you don't have Netflix I assume you can get the DVDs from Redbox . . . or bit torrent.
Speaking of which, I still haven't watched last Thursday's episode. I need to get on that.

That made me laugh, good post shmokes! I was reading on Wikipedia, and Shmokes sums it all up here. Also, was DVR in existence when this show was on? I read on there they kept shuffling around the time spots. I remember thats what killed futurama for me, I never knew when the damn show was on. Ok! Spreading the word about Archer! Ill check it out tomorrow for sure. I also have netflix at work, so Ill catch up before tomorrow.

I did watch it when it originally aired and I wonder if some of the season 3 jokes still translate if you weren't watching it when it first aired. For instance, they often brought up the website savethebluths.com in the show, and the reason is because this was a real website trying to save the show from getting cancelled. They also had an episode were they were advertising it like crazy saying the show would be in 3D, would have lots of guest stars, and one of the characters would die on the show. The episode is hilarious, but I'm curious how well it translates to those who never watched the previews beforehand.

Haha, I love that episode. That "preview" is actually part of the episode (it's where the credits normally were), so it's just like any normal joke setup. It wasn't an actual Fox promo. It's still present in the DVD's, etc.
popsicle:
I too only watched this wonderful show last year (and sucked wife and her visiting mom into watching ALL episodes in a 2-week span). So terribly disappointing that there are not more of these. Jeffrey Tambor is outstanding, and was already a favorite from Larry Sanders. I do remember watching one or two episodes when it aired (a friend was raving about it), but as mentioned it takes a few episodes to get to know the characters and grasp the very heavy, yet brisk, plot movement.
Other shows that have pulled me in from Netflix.. the Battlestar remake, Venture Bros., Lost, and Breaking Bad.
