Thinking of coming back...

I used to active on here awhile back, but I went and got married again and sold off all my real arcade games and only kept 2 mame machine. They are both 865/845 vintage p4 with the original Arcadevga cards.

I saw the new arcade vga card and was thinking of redoing my main machine.
It has a WG9500 monitor, 2 4/8 way ultimarc joysticks, 1 trackball, 1 spinner and 2 actlabs guns.
The current frontend is Mamewah and I think I'm on mame .96 (it's been a while. )

Any suggestions on the newer frontends/mame versions/zinc? I would love a mame version that you don't have to select ok at the start of each game, (and can suppress the the game contains errors screen also.)

Thanks.

Well, for starters the WG9500 is outdated now.  Times have changed.

I'll take it off your hands if you want.

I can only think of Hyperspin in terms of "new" frontends.  It is what I currently use and I love it.  Can be a bit of a memory hog however.  Maximus arcade might be fairly new and worth checking out as well.

The last mame rev I saw was 141, but 142 may be out by now

And to get rid of the joystick toggle at the beginning of each game you can compile the library yourself.  There is a great tutorial for this here if you search for it (sorry don't have the link on me).

BadMouth:

The easy way around the nag screen is to just use an alternative build, like mame plus.
All you have to do is check a box.  Just set it up in the mame plus GUI, then point your front end toward the mamep exe.

Anything playable in Zinc is playable in MAME as long as you have a halfway decent processor.
Are you planning to upgrade?

Check out Nebula's Sega Model 2 emulator and Demul or Makaron for Sega Naomi games.

I was thinking a i3-550 or a i5-660 with 4gb ram for an upgrade. It's got a old p4 2.8 (non dual core) currently.
New computer, new arcadevga card, new software is what I'm thinking.

Still XP or windows 7 for a base os now?
(I can do either, I sell both.)
