Check the MAMEDev change logs and see if anything there gives you a reason to update.

I've found it easier to browse the New & Changed page on MAWS vs. the change log. You can set a range from the version you have to the version you are considering updating to. http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/

That's the only accurate answer to this question.  It's a personal choice, so I'm still on .96 because of a Robotron fix.  There may be more accurate versions now, but with my skill set it's inconsequential to me.

I may be mistaken, but I always thought Robotron was fixed in .99... You might not notice if you don't play both versions side-by-side. The old version runs a bit too fast.

Dire Radiant:

Its always a dilemma. On the one hand if there's no compelling reason for updating then you probably shouldn't (I'm still running 0.95 in my cab and haven't seen a good reason to update yet) On the other hand, are we not men? Are we not involved in a hobby which involves building things and tinkering with them? Surely then our motto must be "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is."

Osirus23:

I don't update unless support for a game I actually want to play is added/improved.

LOL thats true. I'm using mala for my FE but thinking of going over to HS, there xmls use the .141 set and I dont really want to rename tons of stuff and might move up to a 64bit os on my cab still unsure.
Been reading on win7 64 with .141 you get a 10-15% boost and a 20-30% from 64 bit os something like that.
