I did enjoy True Grit. Hell, I thought Toy Story 3 should have won. That pulled on the ol heartstrings.

I don't think a cartoon should ever win best picture.

Why not? It evokes different emotions on the same level.

I agree that a cartoon shouldn't be able to win, but only because they have the asinine Animation category.  The idea that a cartoon can't compete with a live action film for best picture is utter craziness.  With that said, Toy Story doesn't come close to deserving the award this year.  Hell, it didn't even deserve Best Animation; that accolade should have gone to How to Train Your Dragon.

The only one of the Best Picture nominees I haven't seen yet is Black Swan.  I thought King's Speech was very good, and I don't particularly care how authentic it was.  Winter's Bone was 100% fiction, so . . . whatever.  But I don't think I'd have given King's Speech best picture.  I thought Winter's Bone and 127 Hours were both better.  Oh, and Inception.  Maybe not.  I think The Fighter and King's Speech are in a pretty dead heat for Best Picture with Facebook a bit below that.  Though, I think David Fincher maybe deserved Best Director for Facebook.  At least I'd give him Best Director before I gave Facebook Best Picture.

The King's Speech was boring, and actually I fell asleep and missed most of it.  I didn't think the acting was worthy of an Oscar, but with the tripe that is put out in the cinema today like Toy Story 3, anything is better than nothing.  We do get some notable exceptions like True Grit and Black Swan, that has some decent acting, but with cinema pricing the way it is (especially 3D), I'm happy to wait for DVD.  It doesn't take long.

I noticed that Tron didn't get a mention.  :-[

How can you say Toy Story 3 is "tripe". Thats a ridiculous statement. Did you not see any of the other ones and are judging it based on the film itself? Then of course its not going to have the same effect, but obviously it isnt tripe considered it IS a cartoon and it WAS nominated for best picture. I never saw How to Train your Dragon, so I cant judge on that, but still, saying it is tripe is utter non-sense. In all actuality, I enjoyed True Grit, but I sure as hell dont think it was an oscar worthy nomination for best picture. If you ask me, it was a pretty slow year for movies.
