Sliders?  Hahah I just remember this show being on around the same time as the critic..

That's funny, I completely forgot about that show until SciFi (or SyFy whatever  ::) ) reran the episodes. Used to watch it quite a bit when I used to work late shifts. Now that show is a damn good example on how to ---fudgesicle--- up a really good premise (it's basically a precursor to Stargate). Cromags?! Quinn 2?! Are you ---smurfing--- serious?? I can't recall very many shows that successfully managed to jump the shark twice.

But I digress, according to imdb, Sliders first aired from 1995 to 1999. The critic first ran from 1994-1995. So no... I basically missed the entire Critic run. If it was Sliders, I would have at least caught the first season.

I remembered I used to watch another Jerry O'Connell series. Remember "My Secret Identity"? As a kid, I used to watch that and "Out of this World" almost religiously.

Damn. Took a look on Wikipedia: 1994_in_American_television and there are all sorts of good shows that ran the same years as The Critic. I just can't remember which one ran in the same time slot or even what time slot The Critic ran in. I'm guessing it might have ran around the same time as DS9 or X-Files if it resided in a prime time slot.

didn't it run at the same time as the simpsons? or was it on the same channel as the simpsons for a while?

i was looking for the clip where he sings owimoweh but found this instead, lol

Yeh wiki says it used to be on ABC in '94 then FOX in '95.  I definitely remember it being on the same channel as the simpsons, I never watched ABC.

Sliders became crap not due to poor writing, but due to a pitiful budget and the remaning cast and crew just not understanding when it was time to give up.  The show started on Fox (uh-oh, we know how this is going to turn out) and for the first couple of seasons the producers and creators of the show were left to their own devices and the show became successful.  Of course Fox's flawless track record or ruuning any good thing had to remain in tact so the network executives started making  creative decisions and tightened the budget to the point of where John-Ryes Davies quit.  Seeing as how he was the only established actor on the show that should have been the end and Fox did indeed cancel the show after that.

Scifi picked it up for the last two seasons, but this was the old scifi, not the current syfy, and thus the budget was even less.  Davies didn't come back, and it was apparent that O Connel wasn't going to stick around due to his budding movie career (at the time at least).  That is why silly plots like quinn 2 and quinn's brother were put in place, to have a backup in case he quit.  And of course he did quit in the second to last season.

So sliders was a show that should have lasted two seasons but got stretched into 5.

My secret identity might have been the best show ever made btw.  That or misfits of science.
