Tracball issue.....again!

Hey guys!

I'm back with a tracball problem again.....actually, it's the same problem as before. I lost the vertical movement on my 3" HAPPS tracball. I ordered a new board (the small one) from Divemaster and installed it this morning. hooked everything back up and to my dismay.....still no vertical movement!

What is my next move as far as troubleshooting this problem? Is the big board the issue??

Please HELP!!!

Thank you

Do you have any other "mouse" devices, like a spinner or 2nd trackball?

negative! Just the one tracball. When i plug a regular mouse in, everything is fine. When I plug the tracball in, only the horizontal movement works???

RandyT:

Swap the cable connection from one of the small boards to the other.  If the problem follows the connector, it's a cable, or interface issue.  If the new board doesn't work, even with the cable from the other axis plugged into it, it's a bum board.  You may just be having bad luck with the small boards, but also make sure there isn't anything, like a short to neighboring wires, that is causing the boards to fry.  Also check the power going to the trackball and make sure it is what it should be, and make sure you are grounded when handling the PCB's.  Cold weather makes for dry air and more possible complications from stray static discharge.

IMPORTANT!!

If there is a chip on the optic board, DON'T unplug or plug it in with power on. The cmos ic's don't like this and will be rendered useless if you do.
