Whats the best C64 emu that works well with Maximus Arcade frontend? |
| EVEGames:
AcidBlue, I've used both CCS64 and WinVice for C64 emulation, my preference is WinVice for a slight customizability edge, and slightly better video/rez controls. But both are very good C64 emus. As for working with Maximus Arcade, I've never used it, but I assume Maximus, like all good front-ends, allows you to run any emulator which can be launched via command-line. Both CCS64 and Vice can be launched via command-line, straight into a game, in full-screen mode. So it's really just a matter of playing with the two emulators and figuring out which one you like best. My advice is, learn how to "swap disks" in both emulators (play a multi-disk game like... I dunno... Bard's tale III, and learn how to "insert disk two"), and figure out which method is the most convenient for you. Because beyond the obvious differences (which emu has better graphics / sound recreation, which one plays games at full speed with no choppiness, etc), this is the only interaction you will regularly have with a C64 emulator - the need to swap disks. And each emu handles this differently. |

I use winvice on maximus arcade and its great. I took snapshots of the games that I like which means they start up from the point where the snaphshot was taken (apologies if you already know this) As for the multiload games, I havent mastered that yet, can be quite annoying when you are playing the last ninja.... |
