I know the shape of the boards now a days is probably a better shape for skating than the ones from the mid 80s...
But man they are boring looking.
Rusty Shackelford:
I used to skate in the 80s over here in the UK where we didnt realy have the choice of boards that you guys in the US had. I used to have a wide Varliflex board. Are they/were they cool? Rip in Peace was the design.

Exactly. Probably the ideal, but also catering to the ability to be massed produced. We'll never see another 1986. Santa Cruz decks made in China. Come on. Another thing gone for the most part are color scheme variations. I've got10 Zorlac Metallicas. All a different scheme. Like having a different deck with each one. To, a lot of rehash of what was. Further validating the signifigance of that time frame over most others. The appeal proves itself timeless. Few have brought anything fresh it seems in a looooong time. Like bringing back the Charger or Camaro. That's what happens you run out of ideas.
A few good companies more on the fringe are:

Conspiracy will run Pushead graphics from time to time. Lindesy Kuhn is edgy. He screen printed for Zorlac in the Texas days.
And Pocket Pistols will serve up Jim Phillips (Santa Cruz) and Vernon Courtland Johnson (Powell and Peralta). Matt French is a Jim Phillips underling. Good stuff. Always was a nice guy to exchange with.

No, they weren't. Just like with Nash, we laughed at them. Pretty much what we considered toy store brands.
